If he wants to stick with a combat 5.5lb trigger, he can look at the ALG Defense triggers. They're under $100. and can get them from Arms East.
Good bang for the buck for a performance trigger would be the Geissele 2 Stage (G2S) trigger. It's basically the same as a SSA trigger but not laser etched and only spot checked MPI tested otherwise, they're made from the same steel and edm tools as the SSA. They're $165US from Brownells or $198CDN from Arms East.
For a few $ more, there's Timney and other high end Geissele trigers.
