I'm looking to buy a AR in the next few months, but i'm kinda confused with all the makers (Armalite, DPMS, Colt, RRA, STAG, LMT....etc)

I was told that busmaster is bulls**it...?

I don't want to built one. So upper and lower would probably the same co.
Barrel lenght 16", .223 caliber.

What do you suggest and why should i choose one company instead of another...

I just wish a could buy Diameco but... (I remember my C-7)...

Thanks

I can't speak to any other maker, as I just bought my frst AR a week or so ago. So here is my plug for Stag and Arms East.

I did the research here. I searched, read for hours and came to the conclusion that the Stag arms was the best choice for me, given my budget and needs.

I also wanted to do a partial build (I put the lower together, REAL simple ####) and had the upper come complete with a free floating foregrip (I had the dealer install it.)

Fit and finish are great (it's my first but I have handled and fired a few of my friends AR's). I am still waiting for a buffer and spring to get it fully functional.

The real gem here is Walter. He was open to questions. Never seemed to be in a hurry to get me off the phone, and genuinly helped my out.

Customer service is so rare these days it blows you mind when it is given so freely.

A great first experince. I doubt that will change at the range.

As far as the hardware goes...my research here can be summed up as:

Stag is as close to milspec you are going to get without dropping a bundle on a Colt, and they have a greater tollerance for Non Stag components than Colt and many other brands.

Currently, the Stag from ArmsEast is the best buy.

Personally, I like my Dlask Lower, built up with a DPMS lower parts kit, RRA 6-pos buttstock and Armalite complete 16" upper mongrel M4-gery, but building one isn't for everyone.

My DLASK lower works 100%, it one of the newer engraved lowers. Some people haven't been as lucky - especially with the older etched receivers... but they ARE made in Canada and the ARE available more often than anything else is.

Armalite is an HBAR with a midlength gas system. Stag is a gov't profile with a short gas system. Take your pick. If I had the cash, I'd try both, but now I just have the Armalite.

The standard ArmaLite carbine has a 16 inch "M4, light, stepped" barrel with the short gas system. Heavy barrels and medium length handguards are also available. All ArmaLites are fully warranted by us in Canada and backed up with our large inventory of spare parts.

New shipment arriving shortly. Recommended retail price is currently $1,485.00 available direct from us or support your local dealer and order through them.

There's nothing wrong with getting a Bushmaster, but you would be better off getting a Stag or Armalite within Canada. They are both quality rifles with good availablity and excellent customer support.

"I was told that busmaster is bulls**it...?"

Can you be more specific? I have had a Bushmaster Dissipator, as well as a
16" carbine and they have never given me any trouble.
Maybe customer service?
I had an Armalite upper from Wolverine and it was great too. At least you know Wolverine is there to back up the product.

I've owned and competed with Colts, Olympic Arms, and Bushmasters, and now Armalite. All of them have been good to me. I ain't complaining.

Just get out there and compete with YOUR service rifle in whatever game(s) your club(s) organize. That's the main point.

Cheers,
Barney

Bushmaster Rocks, over 20K thru mine in a year...barrel toast...still going strong though, just replaced the extractor spring today. Boss owns a Questar imported Patrolman's carbine...not a single failure to date, sold 4 Stag rifles to date...not a single complaint, lost count of how many Armalites we've moved...John must know...many to professional users as their private gun, not one comeback...whoever says one brand is better than others is the one full of ####. There is one company that makes a rife that shares an outward silhouette of an AR from a distance...they are the source of much revenue in the fix it department.

I agree.... most fo the major brands available in Canada are all "good to go"...

As long as you don't go great lengths to import a Hesse/Vulcan Arms rifle, you should be fine with the brands already available in Canada. I personally have a Rock River Arms Standard A4 flattop and couldn't be more satisfied with it, however if I were to buy again I would definately try an M4-type carbine from Stag/Arms East as it is closest to Mil-spec as you can get up here.

Stag R3 Upper on a Colt lower here.. real happy with both (had a colt 20 inch a2 HBAR upper before). Will be getting a Stag lower and a second RRA upper in the future...

Honestly I'm no expert but try out as many rifles as you can then go with what feels right for you. Before buying I tried about 15 different guns.

Had no complaint with my Midlength Armalite AR...If they ever come (I doubt it), I would check out Heckler & Koch's new AR series (HK416).

Hell, build a franken-AR. I think I've damn near got parts from every major manufacturer on/in mine.

Half the fun is in building and tweaking them.
