So I sold a guy my 7.5" NEA AR...I fired roughly 750 rounds through if(that's being generous)never a hitch with the gun.i was contacted by the guy I traded it to today,he said he brought it to the range for the first time today and the first round he fired stuck in the barrel...ok,seen that happen before, squib round,no big deal, knock it out with a down, check the barrel and go on....he did that, fired a second round, same thing...so he contacts me and is a little pissed his new gun doesent work....and I feel bad cause he Thinks I sold him a dud.

My first reaction was bad ammo, incomplete ignition of the powder, etc.

He was using American eagle .223,which I've always used with no issue, but I have seen some bad batches from the best ammo(hornady).

Other then ammo, what else would cause this?excessive carbon build up in the gas tube maybe?im honestly at a loss here and want to help him get it running.

Tell him to buy another kind of ammo. It is definately the ammunition. He has a bad batch and should stop using it immediately. FFS, what kind of idiot gets a squib load, then has to bang it out with a rod, and fires another OF THE SAME BATCH of ammo and it happens again, so it has to be the gun??? The guy is an idiot. Tell him to pull the bullets of the rest. Buy another batch of ammo and nicely to pyss off. :)

:agree:

If it was just a fouled gas tube, that might affect function but the bullet is still gonna leave the barrel.
Stuck bullets generally mean bad ammo.

Is he saying a bullet was stuck in the barrel but means the case was stuck in the chamber?

I would think it somewhat unlikely (albeit not impossible) to have two bad rounds one after another in the same box.

What type of reaction is he getting when attempting to use the upper?

Is the brass being extracted and the next round being chambered?

Is there more felt recoil because of stuck bullet? (all the inertia has to go somewhere from a properly loaded round, or very little from a dud)

The first thing is to stop using that ammo and try another.

None of this adds up - either the squibs or the failures to extract, whatever actually happened. Did he mean it fired, but didn't properly chamber the next round?

You need to find out exactly what is happening.

Curious as to who the ''who'' is being referred to is?
The gun was sold as is and functioning and once out of the previous owners hands....
There is something going sideways for sure , from ammo issues if in fact it is factory ammo or someone is pulling a fast one
on someone .
Two squib loads back to back from a well know company while not unheard of is odd...
More info is required ie: is it a squib load and bullet stuck or is it the spent casing is stuck in the chamber??
I read the opening comment and understand it to be a stuck bullet in the barrel, but some people still call magazines clips.
No accusations here, just more talking out loud is all.
Best Regards,
Rob

not common, my bet is the casing is stuck or possibly a round not chambered fully, if this was the case its not uncommon to get a couple not chambered fully in a box of ammo, cause could be dirty ammo maybe carried in a pocket or glove box

Somethings fishy

Sounds fishy indeed.

Either he's got bad ammo as others pointed out or he's not telling the truth and using bad reloads or he's got buyer's remorse and looking for an excuse to return it.

At 40K+ PSI pressures, that bullet is going somewhere. If there's no KABOOM, then it's going to leave that barrel.

maybe his wife found out how much he REALLY spent on a gun, and now he has to get his money back while saving face.... lol

Lol, my bet is on this.

2 squibs in a row from factory ammo is unheard of. Even if the rifle didn't have a gas tube, the bullet would still leave the barrel if it had a proper powder charge.

if a full powered round (meaning if the round was a good one properly charged etc, not a squib) was indeed miraculously stopped halfway down the barrel by something? all of that gas and pressure would have nowhere to go. this can lead to blown/bulged barrels etc.

if this has happened TWICE and yet there is no obvious damage to the gun then something is fishy.
