Was just curious as to how available ar10's are here in Canada. I know that Wolverine has a couple, but they're both $3500 plus. Is there a source for these rifles at the 2000 dollar range? Is there a possibility of an ar15 conversion build? Thanks.

Eagle Arms make an AR10 for around 2000 IIRC
Email Wolverine for a price list

Yup, and you can get one in. Better yet, just put a wanted add in xchange, there's quite a few DPMS's floating around.

OR even better, wait for the Swiss Arms or XCR .308, and then you're non restricted, since you'd already be shelling out a lot of dough why stop there? :p

The AR10 is a sweet rifle, and very accurate as well. It won't digest soft-point ammo, but you won't be hunting with it, so no big deal.

The gun may also take a couple of hundred rounds to "break in". I experienced some stoppages initally, especially at low temperature, but everything smoothed right out as soon as the parts got to know each other a little bit. :)

If you really want to shoot something other than FMJ, ballistic tips, hornady AMAX's and SST's all work, as do SMK's typically, sometimes not. Poly tipped works great though for sure.

PS, the great thing about the AR-10 is that it's the way the AR was actually designed first. The AR-10's, in theory, work better and are a better rifle.

Actually the current Armalite AR-10 is quite a different animal from Stoner's original design. The DPMS and KAC rifles are closer to the original, although still quite different due to the number of ar15 parts used. FYI an original AR10 semi-auto would not be restricted in Canada.

edited to add; An original AR10 in semi-auto only is probably rarer than hen's teeth, however, if such a beast exists than it would be unrestricted.

I've had about three dozen of the old AR 10 Sudanese and Portuguese ... and I loved them. But when parts dried up, I switched to the M-14 type rifles.

However I just sold my last M-14 shorty, and was looking seriously to replace it with an AR 10, only this time a newer model. After a great deal of thought, I went instead to a .300 Whisper AR 15. Realistically, this caliber will do anything I want [ except maybe argue with a moose or a bear, and YES Virginia I once DID take an AR 10 hunting in Northern Saskatchewan back when such things were legal].

And I can build a .300 "Whatwasthat" to do what I want WAY CHEAPER than any AR 10!!!

B]if you don't mind shooting non standard calibers, .300Whisper and 6.5 Grendel are VERY nice alternatives to .308.[/B]

If I wanted to go further than .300 YDS [ with the Eotech and the .300 Whisper this is probably MAX practical range, and with my tired old LAZERED eyeballs, this is as far as I would want to shoot anything now, anyhow ] I would seriously investigate an AR 15 in 6.5 Grendel. Still MUCH cheaper than any AR 10, and you can get MOST parts almost anywhere .

But of course , I still have about 1000 rds of 7.62 NATO Hitenberger ball and a couple hundred .308 168 GR HP BT Match, sitting around my basement.

Damn, maybe I should buy an AR 10 too.
