AR10 vs AR15

yes, I know these are variants of armalite. they are still ar10 variants. they are restricted. as are ar15's.
there are Canadian ar10's and ar15's that are not restricted, this makes so much sense. they are not true ar's imo.

shoot what you like to shoot. me, if I want a ar10 or an ar15, I have no problem with the paper work associated.

Real AR10 based rifles aren't restricted and never have been but 308 caliber AR15s are. Shoot what you want but it was you pointed out leaving the AR15 308 rifles in your vehicle might not turn out well, so I know you're just being stubborn now. :)

The usage restrictions suck and I'll take NR over R every time given a choice.

AR 15 are specifically named restricted and the number 10 comes before 15, therefore AR 15 variants doesn't apply to AR 10, so classification of AR10 are based on 18.5" barrel length, if they can traced the design lineage to the AR 102.

Unfortunately few rifles were submitted to the RCMP lab by importers in the past as AR 308 or as a scaled up AR 15, so they were classified as restricted.

FYI the current Armalite isn't the same company as the original Armalite.

This my understanding of the "AR10" clissifications:

First, there two different AR10s - the original design developed by Eugene Stoner, and a shorter framed, newer version.

The original Stoner designed AR10 existed some years before the AR15 and therefore isn't an AR15 variant. NR.

The newer, shorter AR10 was developed after the AR15 and has a lower receiver about the same dimensionally as the AR15 from the magwell back. The RCMP decided this newer AR10 is a variant of the AR15 because of frame similarities and the date of design. It is restricted because the law says AR15 rifles and variants are restricted.

the nr versions hold no interest for me, zero. i wish the ar platform was nr, but it is what it is, welcome to banada.

Out of dozens of parts, only two non moving items are different, and every other part is literally from an ar 15, and the operation is identical to an ar 15, AND it's not restricted, I'm quite puzzled at the zero interest angle.

most of the firearms I enjoy are restricted. I don't hunt, just paper at ranges. I have trust issues, I missed out on the 12.6, so I have as many restricted as I can get. I have nr's too, but they aren't as much fun.
