AR15 $1000 budget?

I'll take the billet anytime. I do machining and smithing and prefer a machined billet over a forging anytime. Metal quality will be better and besides, it's unique and Canadian. :)

On another note, why would you want a chrome lined barrel? Accuracy is not as good and if any of it chips out accuracy gets worse. I can see if you're using corrosive ammo it would help, but won't be happening in a 5.56 AR.
Makes more sense in a F/A AK-47 7.62x39. The "Civi" version of the CZ858 doesn't use a chrome lined barrel and it's what makes them slightly more accurate than a chrome lined SKS.

Here's an odd fact - if you want a true to life, god's honest Milspec AR - Chrome barrel, parked full auto bolt, the whole thing - just one step away from full auto, that's actually in use right now by militaries in the Western Hemisphere, you need to get yourself a Norinco.
The Milspec I'm talking about is Paraguayan, but the rifle is also in use with some Iranian and Venezuelan units.
