Ar15-47

This the lower that uses AK mags? Always seemed interesting but with dirty AK ammo and direct gas seems like every trip to the range will be a workout to clean.

Made by Knights Armament Co. in very limited quantities, now discontinued. You WILL NEVER OWN THIS RIFLE. One can dream though...

Or did you have the civilian AR-47 in mind?

Saw it in an ad for an American arms company (atlantic?). claimed it was a new product, but I guess you all seem pretty familiar with them. If i ever get the xtra funds I'll look into one of these.

Here's info on the modular lower with interchangeable mag wells from MGI: http://www.mgimilitary.com/Lower_Receiver_Mult_Mag_Wells.htm

This would allow you to use AK-47 magazines in an AR-15 type rifle. Perhaps even more cool is that they're working on a mag well that will take M14 mags to pound .308s through your AR-15 sized gun.

One consideration ... I've read that 7.62x39 AR-15s have a higher incidence of bolt breakage, because material has to be removed on the bolt face to accomodate the larger case head.

There's one american company that builds ARs that have an interchangable magwell where take off a part and it uses AK mags, if you put it back on it uses AR mags. All you have to do is switch uppers and bolt. Dont remember the name of the company.

edit: Disaster Monkey has it right, it's MGI

KAC's SR47 suffered from the fact it needed to use AK mags and crap ammo.
I shot one and unlike most KAC products I have used was not impressed - add in the price tag and it was ridiculous.

The CProduct mags seem to be the best idea for those wanting to shoot 7.62x39 on an AR platfrom -- maybe LWRC will make a piston upper in that caliber.
