AR15 barrels.... where to buy??

Here are all the specs on the Shilen AR barrels I can offer to you.

http://www.shilen.com/ar15Barrels.html

As I am not an AR expert, I look forward to your informed comments both pro and against. 20 and 24" lengths seem to be favored.

I will be contacting them next week to see what other lengths they can produce. Nice to see that they can offer 204 and 17 Rem barrels as well.

The quality of the barrel/bore dimensions, chamber cutting and stress relieving are what make an accurate barrel. Shilen makes a very good barrel.

Will post what info I find out.

Thanks for the help I appreciate and I really considered these barrels. However, it appears that the total cost of custom making the barrel out of one of these would be prohibitive to me. And it would also be completely overkill for I want to do with the rifle.

I will contact Wolverine Supplies Monday.

Yep, they are pricey pipes. Shilen's market are competition shooters looking for the best accuracy. BR quality barrels machined to work in an AR.

Why the emphasis on Service match dimensions 20 and 24" lengths. Would make great for 3 gun, sniper/DMR or other accuracy minded applications.

Will still post what I find from Shilen.

I guess (and it is only a guess) that they emphasis on 20'' and 24'' because they're meant to be match and varmint barrels in which muzzle velocity is much more important than manoeuvrability and weight.

I've ordered the Armalite barrel at Wolverine Supplies. It is almost exactly what I wanted minus the gas block but I've ordered a Badger Ord. Speed Block with it which will do the job perfectly.

I can't wait to put it on and try it.

Excellent!!

Would you mind sending a pic of what your barrel looks like before you change the gas block.

regards

I took this pic to show off to another guy yesterday!
The barrel is even sweeter in real life, but you can still get an idea of its greatness by this picture

There are the pics Bryce from WS sent me:

Unfortunately for you, I've bought their last one.

Thanks again to everyone for the help.

Just received it today.

Great looking barrel. It has the exact profile I wanted.

I've changed the gas block for a badger ord speedblock, everything went smoothly. The flash hider isn't pinned. It was just locked by an allen set screw. I had to heat it up with a propane torch to loosen the red locktite that was holding it and everything went easily.

I can't wait to shoot it!!

I will have a mint condition Stag gov't profile milspec 20" 1:7 5.56 chromed barrel for sale very soon along with gas tube and handguards. I will also sell the Armalite picatinny "clamp and screw on" type gas block that came with the barrel. Keep an eye out.
