AR15-Based Match Rifle .223 Rem

I was interested in going down that route a while back and I was going to go with the Les bear. I'm sure you already know his story though. I ended up loosing interest in trying to make a semi shoot groups once I realized I could shoot just as fast with a bolt gun.

I'm super-keen to build a precision AR as well.

So far, I'd probably go with the following furniture:
- Magpul PRS stock (though there are some excellent alternatives out there these days)
- ERGO Palm Shelf Grip - love mine
- matched billet upper/lower (looking for ideas for vendors - Rainier Arms maybe?) - some have adjustable links for upper/lower tension
- JP enterprises adjustable gas block (can also turn the gas off if you want to go that route to see if it affects precision)
- I'm thinking a 28-30in custom barrel (Krieger?) to get max velocity out of the .223 Rem
- a matched bolt (maybe the JP LMOS?)
- not sure which free-float tube I would go with
- trigger - critical for accuracy as milspec AR triggers are awful - maybe a Geissele or Timney drop in unit?

Anyway, just some ideas...

Look over the fence to see what the NRA HP shooters are trying this season.

Experimentation is part of our game. By monitoring the pendulum swings, you will get a sense of where the good ideas are centering. Innovation is made at the edges, but last year good idea fairies are this year's waste of time. If you can wait, look over a couple of year's SHOT show exhibits. See how many have become commercial successes, ie long receivers which take the stress off the receiver ring.

Thanks kombayotch, have forwarded to armourer. We have customers looking to do match-quality AR builds and may as well do one for the company. This would go with new suppressed .300 AAC Black Out that we shot at CISC. It functioned with some ammo but not others and is a work in progress.

Regards,

Peter
