AR15 Bolt Carrier Finish

Somewhere along the line I've acquired two stripped bolt carriers that are in the white. I need to install gas keys. Before I do that, I'd like to finish them with some sort of coating. I've thought about cold bluing them, but I'm not sure how that would hold up, or if it is even correct.

Thoughts on what type of coating would work, without adding too much to the outer diameter of the carriers?

Manganese or Zinc Phosphate.

Cerakote microslick. I had my BCG nitroned by arma coat it turned out very well I love the finish.

you can go with good old Phosphate, or, I just bought a BCG with Salt Bath Nitriding (Isonite QPQ, Nitration, melonite finish, many names), very hard very nice.
my next one I might go hard chrome like in my LWT MWS bolt which is awsome.(not my pic, I'm lazy )

Phosphating is right up your alley then........

You can buy the ingredients from a pottery supply house (manganese or zinc) and a hydroponics supply store (phosphoric acid), but you get much better results using the pre-made solution (radacy).
