AR15 bolt catch failure. Thoughts?

So I've built 2 AR15s on Armalite lowers using DPMS LPKs. I followed the guides on AR15.com and everything went together nicely. AR15 #1 works like a charm while AR15 #2's bolt catch fails to function more often than not.

Mag in or out, I can not seem to get the bolt catch to reliably hold the bolt. It just doesn't seem to be travelling high enough against the bolt face so it's not catching. Any thoughts? Am I looking at a part swap? Is it possible the spring or plunger is preventing it from teetering deep enough inside the indentation, thus it's not moving high enough to engage?

Can't help but think it's a simple fix but appreciate any suggestions before I start dicking with it. Thanks.

Is the bolt catch functioning or doing what you describe when you test with an empty mag/dummy rds or during firing sequences with live rounds?

If it is with live rounds it could be as NaOH said, or it could be a short stroking issue. Give us more info- barrel length, Bolt Carrier Group issues (staked key), extractor springs/buffers, recoil springs (OEM/Extra Power?), etc.
