I know this topic has been covered before, but not too specifically.

I field stripped my newly received AR last week and realized that cleaning this rifle take longer than expected without proper tools.

The bolt had baked on carbon that was hard to remove with my brass punch. :D I also had an impossible time trying to clean out the bolt carrier ends where the bolt sits. There is still carbon buildup as I did not have a proper scraping tool to reach the depths of the carrier.

I was going to place an order on brownells today, but I figured I would ask here to see what people recommend.

I currently have an Otis cleaning kit with flexible rods. This covers barrel cleaning.

What I want basically is brass scrapers, chamber brushes etc.

What else am I missing?

do you have a bore guide?

also look at a cleaning tool...i am looking for one too.

I know Brownells sells an Armory Kit, but it costs over $1000. :D

I was just going through Brownells and they certainly have a nice selection of cleaning supplies for AR-15's.

This for example.

Is there a kit that includes the tools, bore guide, brushes, rods, and everything else needed?

Right here.

Leave the carbon on the bolt tail, it causes no issues. Ignore the carbon in the depths of the carrier it causes no issues, but digging at a chromed surface trying to scrape it clean ............ Keep in mind that there will be the same amount of carbon following a couple hundred rounds as there will be after 10 thousand.

You might be better off getting more effective cleaners/lubricants rather than trying to scrape.

Something like Gunzilla, where you spray it on, and then wait and watch as carbon simply runs off.
