AR15 CQB sights

Gentlemen, If I may chime in here and offer my thoughts

I have used Eotech (512 model) as well as the aimpoint T1, H-1, M4, & M4S, and have used all in conjunction with a Aimpoint 3x magnifier. and I must admit, from my experience I prefer the Aimpoint line.

Unless one was using a magnifier, I found the eotech reticle to be "Fuzzy" for lack of a better word, that being said, I found the Circle dot reticle to be fast on target acquisition.

Now, that one has decided that Aimpoint is the way to go, you really must assess the type of build. If your building a heavy duty, need to take abuse rig were long battery life is a must, and weight it not an issue, Its very tough to beat the M4 or M4S optic either in the stock mount, or a Larue or ADM Socom height riser mount.

However if your building a "light and Fast", the Micro in a Larue riser is the way to go. Further if you will not be using Night vision in conjunction with your Carbine, the H-1 is the greatest value out there.

That all being said, I am now in the process of mounting a NightForce NSX 1-4x24 with zero stop for all round use. The reticule is illuminated and its my understanding that this optic is a true 1x power, and in theory, one should be able to use it like a red dot, and then turn it up for those longer shots. Thats the theory anyways, now its time to see if the "rubber meets the road" as planned

Just my two pennies.

You'll most likely never use the original base if you are putting it on a AR-15 as it would sit so low. I 'm using the Aimpoint Micro H-1 with the American Defense Modular AD-B2 Base and the American Defense Modular T1 CO Spacer (Absolute co-witness) on my AR and I'm loving it so far.

I use the Aimpoint 39mm spacer. One shot has them for 30 bucks. Saves you a pile of money on an aftermarket mount if you don't care about the QD latch.

Ahhh, I see your point.
I assume you use the original base with that spacer.
I wasn't aware that you could get the Aimpoint spacer here in Canada though.

The Micro doesn't really need a QD mount. In the unlikelihood of a failure it could double as a ghostring sight.

Eotech,,even with it off ,at room ranges ,you just have to frame the target.

You do the same thing with an Aimpoint, like a large ghost ring. Personally, I've found the round field of view of an Aimpoint to be more condusive to this type of shooting than an Eotech, but the latter will work.

and the battery life newer ones are getting to be as long as the aimpoints.

Even the newer Eotechs are no where near the battery life of even the old Aimpoints, let alone the M3 or better yet, the M4.

how long are you going to be levaeing it on at a time?

That's just the point, with an Aimpoint you don't turn it off - you just change batteries every few years on your birthday (or some other easily remembered date) - just for Murphy's sake, I change out my Aimpoint batteries every year, whether they need them or not.

I WILL NOT use an optic that turns itself off, ie. Eotech.

There seems to be a lot of aimpoint models.

I think I am looking for something with a 2MOA dot, not a micro model. Don't really care about NV, which models does that put me into?

Do you guys also have recommendations on mounts? Where to buy? Price?

Well that would put you into the M4 model, either standard or S modle.

The stock mount is pretty good, and if you can get it, well Larue is very good kit. American Defense Mfg also makes a very good mount.

Battery life on this unit is out of this world, and it use a AA battery. Yes thats right AA battery.

hope that helps
