How are your AR15's setup for IPSC? What barrel length and optics? What is the longest distance i can expect for targets? Do you guys use vests or mag pouches on the belt?

I'm looking at rebuilding some guns for 3-gun / IPSC. So far i am thinking with going with my Rem 870 and Glock 17. The 870 is @ Tac Ord getting some finishing touches done as we speak :).

Here is a picture of my Bushmaster shorty. It is okay up to 100-150 yards but i am looking at building smth longer..16" - 18". Any suggestions?

300 yards!!! Looks like I need a SPR build .... Hm.... What optics do u guys use? 5 yards - 300. ACOG looks like the best option.

Optics???? Irons, baby. There was only one target set up @ 300, oh yeah, my bad, it is 300 Metres, not yards. Most targets have been 60 yards or less. Last fall @ the Barrie 3 Gun, they had a Clay Pigeon set up @ 60 yards, everything else was 20 yards and less. Using any Optics puts you in Open Class for the tournament, in case you already didn't know that.

Last year was my first year shooting 3 Guns and IPSC for that matter, so I do have limited experience, other than the three 3 Guns that I did shoot last year. Some of the veteran 3 Gunners should be along to give you a broader idea.

Oh yeah, equipment. I just use a Bog standard 16" AR, and use Safariland Pistol mag pouches for my Mag carriers. Lots of guys use Tac Vests though.

for limited division the the mid length systems seem to be the hot ticket these days. Ted Puente has his front site mounted a couple/few inches infrontof the gas block.

At the 2009 canadian 3gun in halifax expect 10% targets 200 to 260 yds 50% at 100 to 200 yds and the rest 25 to 100 yds .If using a barrel length less than 16"making minor with some factory ammo may be a problem.
I personally use bladetec mag pouches on belt wich makes it easy to change gear for different firearms types.

Ive used this as is for my 3 gun rifle. Who cares whether your in open or not, its not like theres 100s of people all shooting Open anyways. I shot 55g for the match- but with some people complaining on the specs maybe you might want 77 or something. I used a tac vest in the past- never again its to slow, I think Ill just use a shoulder bag full of mags instead.

How is a shoulder bag faster than a tacvest?

Dump the empty mag in the sand. Free hand goes into bag, fishes out full mag. Index with heavy end up, and bullet facing forward. Probably faster than unsnapping a clip, fighting with the flap and dragging out the full mag past whatever wants to snag it.

I keep the flaps open and unsnapped and my mags about one third out of the pouch and all the mags have magpuls. From what i can tell the bag sounds slower because you might have to "fish" for a mag a while. Whereas there is nothing easier than grasping a mag by the magpul and pulling it out of a pre-opened pouch... who snaps their pouch in a match anyway?

I have Ranger tabs on all my mags, with the 10 round shorties its easier when fishing around for them to quickly feel which side is which..

If you substituted the word wife/girffriend/hottie for magazine, that sentence makes perfect sense.
