I would like to replace the stock front sight post on my ar because I want to install a scope but the front post is in the way. Now the question, if I buy a front gas block with the rail, are they all the same height so they will match the height of the rear BUIS i had for the stock A2 front sight post? Tks

Depending on the scope, you may not even see the shadow of the front sight. So don't hack it until you need it.

If you replace it with a railed gas block, they may not be standard. This means you should buy the front site to go with the gas block, if it is not standard. Front site that is meant to be attached to railed hand guard on the same height as the receiver MAY not work with railed gas block. It all depends if the railed gas block is the same height as the receiver. Some do, some don't.

My AR is scoped and has a front sight. The only effect is that the image is not quite as bright as it would be if there was no front sight. Been there for 10 years and have never bothered to replace it - or just hacksaw it off. If you cut it off you can use a file to round off the stubb.

Leave it alone and try the scope, first.

I'd also like to remove mine. I want a longer front stock and this is tall useless object is in the way. I assumed I can't just cut it off because the gas block is in there? In my scope, I only see it on 2x or lower, when it's on 3x or higher, I don't see it. I want mine gone for other reasons though.

If the front sight post is in the way of a longer hand-guard you are intending to install you can, and many do, grind down the front sight post. The gas block will still be functional. If you are just getting it out of the way for a scope, many scopes will "ghost out" the front post when you zoom in - so I would try just mounting the scope first.

OK, cool, i will try it out to see. I had a red dot and it was in the way. Helps to make sure you are lined up but also in the way if you just want to center the target in the red dot circle and shoot. Thought it would do the same with a scope. Tks

Use a mount that is 1/3 co-witness and you won't have to do anything about the front site.

If your front site is completely blocking your red dot, your mount is too low to begin with.

Lots of us use scopes with the front sight.

If you want to install a longer, floated handguard, just cut the sight legs off, leaving the gas block. The new forend will slide right on.

Yes Ganderite, that's what i want to do with mine. My red dot was co-witnessing with my rear BUIS and my standard front post. So had to line up 3 things to shoot. So does a red dot suppose to be "higher" than the BUIS system? I had it just attached to the top rail of the rifle. Now where can i get one of those canted scope mount for a normal price in Canada? Tks

12 years Infantry, I got used to using a optic with a FSB. My current AR had a scope with a FSB and didnt bother me. But I still opted to go with a railed gas block.

Comes down to personal preference.
