Details are now posted on the website... thanks for being patient :)

Do you know how the flashhiders are attached? on the so called permanently attched FH. Like is the barrel threaded underneath? I really can`t make up my mind on which length would be better for the 9mm round.
Also, these would just use standard G17/18 mags?
Is the front sight a standard AR front sight that would co-witness with other rear sights on the flat-top model?

I too would like to know about the front sight if we can use other optics where the front sight wouldnt interfear.
OZZ are you looking into this and if so can you post what you find out.
Thanks 8)

What's the deal with mag capacity? I am assuming that 5rds is the max capacity legally allowed? If so, who does a good job pinning Glock mags and how much?

Thanks PowerWagon. I have recently seen the K40GL with the 11.5" CAR barrel at a Michigan gunshow. The pictures on the web do not do it any justice! It was a very nice, jet black and just as hefty as the as their other models. The dealer didn't do export sales so I checked with Dlask because they mentioned on their old website that they deal with Olympic Arms and they said they couldn't (or wouldn't?) get the Pistol Caliber Rifles. Also they did quote me a price on a 223 Olyarms for $1725 C.A.D. Not really a bad price for Canada. AR's are always pricey here but the comparable 223 AR sells for $780 U.S.D. vs $924 for the Glock AR. So questars price of $1299 C.A.D. is actually a very very good price!

Well this is the response I got back from OLY,

"The CAR flash hider is permanently attached to the barrel by pinning and welding. In compliance to US Law, we cannot ship completed rifles with barrels less than 16", or overall length less than 26", to individuals who do not hold a Federal Form-4, which of course are not issued in Canada. If you want such a barrel, I suggest you contact your importer for further guidance. The front sights,as with all other components with the exceptions of the bolt hold-open and magazine catch, are standard components. Because the upper receiver has been relief-cut for these parts, a standard replacement upper will not fit on this rifle's lower. Most rear sights should provide good witness to the front sight, though some which are designed to work with the slightly taller "M4"-type front sight may be at the limit of their adjustment. For further information I must refer you to your importer, or to our web site for these rifles, http://www.olyarms.com/?page=m1_glock_lowers# . Thanks for your interest-- Lee"

I would like to have the barrel length at 11.5", so I would go with which ever is the easiest (remove flash hider or cut down barrel). I would think that removing the FH would be more work than cutting and crowning & treading, if that's the case a 16" version would be best, that way I can just cut it down to whatever length I want. I would want the 9mm version. Can you find out if the upper receiver is a std AR-15 or has it been altered, it would be nice to make it flattoped.

thanks

That's also my line of thinking...
logically, it will be easier to chop/recrown/thread the 16" to 10.5 or 11.5 than to start with the 11.5" CAR that has the pinned & welded FH.

Just talked with some OLY guys this weekend at the Puyallup Gunshow. Glock AR 15s are backordered for months, but they do have a surplus of 9 mm pistol length uppers. On the table for $ 450 US, and these use standard lowers with a modified 9mm mag.

OLY used to make a glock mag adapter for the standard AR 15 mag wells, but these were discontinued due to lack of maket. These required the Glock mags be modified, but hey ...

I asked if they would be interested in making a few more adapter kits for me Personally, I am more interested in using a 9mm mag [ preferably the Glock ] in a standard lower than I am in a dedicated Glock lower.

too each their own

if you modify the glock mags you'd legally have to pin them to five

Just to update those who have placed orders already...

Both Ottawa and US State Department have approved the permits for the first shipment (enough to cover all orders in hand right now). At this point we're just waiting for guns to be released from the factory.

We have instructed them to ship in any quantity (not to hold for a complete order shipment)... so they probably will start arriving in dribs and drabs. We expect to have at least a few arrive before the quoted February estimate.

Customer Orders will be filled in the sequence they were received.

I'll keep you informed as we know more.

Mark.

Just wondering what our laws say about cutting a 16" barrel down to 11.5"??? Would that be considered a sawed off barrel? Or is it O.K. since the factory offers that length??

The barrel is fine to cut down. The gun is restricted.

Mark, will you guys be able to have the barrel`s cut and threaded at your end? It would save alot of hassle in shipping/taking appart the rifle as soon as a person would recieve it. I would like one but a 16' 9mm barrel doesn`t cut it for me, and buying this and then having to get ATT`s to reship to a gunsmith is alot of extra hassle.
Stupid laws

Upper is removable from the lower, and is not the part that is registered. Thus, you don't need an ATT to bring the barrel to a gunsmith (just bring the upper and leave the lower at home)

Your right, don`t know what I was thinking but regardless cutting barrels to me means shipping again and more hassle.
Maybe once you get them in you will know better as to what can be done.

We're looking at this possibiity. I have a fellow who has done this type of work before... he is considering if he wants to do it again and what he would charge for it. It's a bit more involved than a hack saw job.

I'll know what the options are before the guns arrive. Whatever he quotes me, I'll pass that on and buyers can decide for themselves what they want to do.

I am *so* getting ready to purchase one of these. I want to start IPSC with my G17... and since I have a belt and mags to purchase, I'll get this rifle for compatibility and ammo price. That and the AR isn't as expensive. Sounds like a great deal...

I sent a AR barrel to Dlask to have cut+recrown and they chrged me $75, which was pretty good I thought but the hassle was taking it appart and mailing and trying to make the lady understand what I wanted arrrggggggggggggg. I don`t know where you are but if you had a local GOOD gunsmith or machinist it would make life easier. 11'5 barrel threaded with a vortex or other FH reamed for the 9mm would be nice and I would buy one
