AR15 Lubrication and cleaning thread

Hello, thanks for the diagram! I have a couple questions after reading so far.
As far as the grease and oil combo goes which parts do you grease and which do you oil?
I also like g96 and with it I use breakthrough oil and as I am a bit new wouldnt mind some opinions on that oil.
Also thanks for the tips on running it wet.
Nice to see different approaches with lubricants.

grease the barrel nut on when installing the barrel. everything else is oil only.

Burke's Gun OIl has been tested to -54C. works very well.
Slip 2000 EWL works very well
Rand CLP works well
FP-10 works well - but it can make you light headed if you clean a lot of guns at the same time and is also sedimentary - so you have to shake it.

I only use Lubriplate grease and ATF. Super cheap and does the job

Oil - the entire bolt, gas rings, cam pin and firing pin. Also oil the trigger springs and pivot pins
Grease - charging handle and bolt carrier (just the areas that rub)

personally, I do not lube the buffer tube spring, the hammer face, the bolt catch or the forward assist

In all the years that I've been shooting ARs, virtually every malfunction is fixed by running more oil on the bolt. Especially in hot summer weather. I'm not sure you can really over-oil the BCG

Thanks for the replies guys. I wouldn’t have thought to grease the barrel nut.
Had to google ATF thinking it was some brand not automatic transmission fluid hahah , so it takes the place of a cleaner lubricant protector it seems, nice cheap innovation! On my first build so looking forward to learning as much as I can.
