AR15 not stripping round from magazine

Hello gun nutz,

I just placed a new bolt in my AR15 and now i am having the issue of not stripping a round from magazine and not engaging the bolt hold on an empty magazine.I was running the bcg more "wet" than usual.this is with 4 different magazine 2 pmags and 2 metal and the same ammunition that worked in it before the new bolt. the odd time it will strip and engage the bolt hold open so i figured it needed more lube. after applying more frog lube it seemed to make it run worse? is it possible i placed too much lubricant?

my bcg is always soaked in frog lube, no issues.

make sure the mags are being held in the right position. maybe they arent seating properly or all the way in.
try it with less ammo in the mag and make sure you have it on the mag catch properly.
 
It sounds like your rifle is short-stroking.

-Remove the bolt carrier group from your rifle and hold it up by the bolt with the in the unlocked (extended) position.
-Alternately, with the bolt in the locked position, hold the assembly by the bolt with the carrier end down.
-Either way, the carrier should not move relative to the bolt. The tension of the gas rings should be able to support the weight of the carrier.
-If the gas rings cannot support the weight of the bolt carrier, they need to be replaced.

maybe there is a burr and its catching on something, is it any harder to pull on the charging handle than before?

let us know how it works out
 
I have been using one for 3 months 500+rds of reloads and had to polish the inside of the bolt carrier. I had extreme wear on the rings after the first 50rds. No problems since.
 
just a bolt was changed NOT the carrier,firing pin or gas key. the bolt was shipped from nea itself. i will play with it when i get home there could be somthing simple i am overlooking. my last range trip was a real PITA. the issue was so inconsistent that maybe it has to be broken in a bit?
 
compare it to original bolt, after you do the gas rings test. if its not the rings, then it might be out of spec or just needs to be broken in
 
I was briefly playing with a guys NEA bolt/carrier the other week and it seemed like the bolt/gas rings were VERY tight in the carrier.

I'm not sure if it was the bolt, the carrier, or the gas rings that were the issue, but they were noticeably tighter than they should have been.

Without putting too much brain power into it, maybe the bolt is tight enough that it's 'dragging' as it rotates in the carrier and causing short stroking?

Hard to say without having it in hand.
 
check to see if the ring gap in the gas rings are alternating and the gap isn't lined up on all of them. Rings may just have to be broken in a bit if they are tight. The bolt is tighter in my DD BCG than they are in both my NEA BCG's. I've seen a rifle short stroke before if the gas ring gaps didn't alternate.

If your rifle is short stroking because of the gaps in the rings. You got bigger problems.
