AR15 not stripping round from magazine

I wish people could collectively get over the whole gas ring lining up myth.

When the gas rings enter the carrier, the gap closes up

ok guys so the bolt passed all tests and i have inspected every part with a flashlight while SLOWLY opening and closing the bolt. i lubed her up real good and as soon as i get time off work im going back to the range. the rings hold the bolt in place and a snap of my wrist will extend the bolt out.

gas key is nice and tight/staked. i am using the same norinco .223 that i have previously put 400+ rounds through the rifle. so i would say mid range crap

is the bolt used some old bolts can wear down to the point they only work in a couple guns seemingly randomly iv seen this before in wainwright other then that all i can tell you is that it seems like the locking lugs are to shallow and are clearing the bolt catch and ammo

OK, the rifle worked fine for 1000 rounds.
You changed the bolt. Why?
Now it doesn't work properly.
Replace the original bolt.
If the rifle once again functions properly, you know the problem lies with the new bolt.

^^^^^^^

Looking back, he never did mention why he changed the bolt in the first place.

BAC, Did the lugs shear off the original bolt?

ah yes..the original bolt lost a lug near the extractor. i have held the old and new bolt together and inspected but see no differance ( with my untrained naked eye)

check the barrel extension in the corresponding area where the original bolt suffered a broken lug. it's possible that the barrel extension is damaged

Does the bolt lock back on an empty magazine when you pull the cocking handle to the rear?

Try cycling the action with a couple rounds to ensure the lug will pick up and chamber the top round in the magazine? Or is it riding overtop the back of the top round in the magazine?

If it does the above, then definitely gas related. How was ejection of the empty cases when you fired? Any other noticable stoppages other than what you have already mentioned? It could be a combination of weak ammo(i haven't fired norc .223 so i'm not sure), new rings to break in a bit.

edit: try a different type of ammunition?

yes the bolt will lock back when i pull the handle. i will bring some other ammo to try on my next outing. the ejection seemed fine to the 4 oclock. pick up some snap caps and cycle it tonight
