Other than ACOG and Elcan what do you think is the best alternative? I'm thinking something with the capacity to BDC automatically without having to think too hard. I sometimes forget to think when I'm under stress.

Check out the Falcon Menace scopes, there's a review on it in the service rifle section, sounds like a good glass.

I'm using a Millet DMS with a American Defence extended eye relief mount it has a nice dot in the donut reticle that is quick and easy to bring on target. The only down side for my purpose is its a bit on the heavy side but nothing to bad.

All of the above will do I'm sure. I have an IOR 1.1-4x CQB model, the older one with the mils reticle instead of the bullet drop one. Figured mils will be more accurate for service rifle. Finally getting an ADM mount for it so I'll be able to try it out soon.

A much cheaper option would be a fixed 4x power scope with either a mils reticle or target turrets for quick adjustment.

Leupold has a new line of cheaper scopes for the AR, the 1.5-4x would be a good economical option for service rifle.

I picked up a beeman 4 x blue ribbon scope for an airgun, but its setup for an ar rail, and can't make it work without ordering plates to fit, its amazing, focus is clear at all ranges, weird but true...and if you want it, I paid $25o, and you can have it for that:cool: If I can get it setup for the 11 mm dovetail, will keep it, these acope are super tough, called the Beeman SS2, or short scope 2.

Nf 1-4 nsx.

yep, or the 2.5-10 depending on what distance you plan to shoot(or, if hunting, how far away you want to be able to count the points).

Since using one of these(for a year, and ~4Krnds), I am hard pressed to think of a way to make a better 1-600m scope without increasing weight.

That said, I'd like to hear what those that shoot >560 are running.

Seen RICHLPS do crazy things at the BCRA with one of these scopes, I think he had it in a GG&G mount on a Swiss rifle...

Personally, it is easier for me to dial down as I'm coming up to the mound than it is to remember using such and such a hash mark at a certain distance while shooting.

Additionally, if you handload or travel to different matches, most BDCs are useless and frustrating - great for battle and 'minute of man' but a liability in competition (imho).

It might be a good idea for your scope to have both hash marks and target turrets so you can play with both options before you settle on a system.

I think the NXS series of scopes are fantastic, and haven't seen or used with a system that is better for the money.

My vote goes to the S&B short Dot Gen II. I know it's ludicrously expensive but it's worth every penny in my books.

I've been using one for service / tactical rifle matches and hunting big game and could not be happier with the results.

I've given plenty of other scopes a try out including Nightforce, Elcan C79 and Spectre DR , multiple variations of the ACOG, and others I wouldn't give up my S&B for any of them.
