AR15 Sight/Optics Question

My AR has the iron sights installed on it right now. When I eventually have the scratch to put an optic on it, will I be able to leave the front iron site on the rifle or will that likely obscure the view? I am thinking of eventually putting a Leupold 1.5-5 or a Nightforce 1-4 type scope on it...

Sorry if its a dumb question - relatively new to AR's.

At anything over 1.5x you won't see the FSB, at 1 to 1.5x you'll be able to set up a co-witness (the current hot set up is a lower 1/3 co-witness - you use the iron sights in the event of dot failure, by looking through the lower 1/3rd of the field of view).

As enefgee said but, I would only add its a matter of personal preference.
Some don't mind a fixed sight in their view others find the sight picture a bit busy,I personally prefer a pop up style folding sight system.
Buy a good optic(again personal preference of type) and chances of a failure are small

No problem with leaving the front sight on your rifle. Your eye will blurr it out when you put your dot/scope on target. That's how mine is set up.
