Hi everyone,

new to the community. recently acquired my RPAL and now looking to gear up. started doing my research months ago on potential "goodies" I would like to own..

I think many will agree that an AR15 is probably a must have...I also think that KAC SR15 is probably one of the best...

in the initial phases of my research, i stumbled across a picture KAC SR15 Tan..and told myself i would absolutely have to own this rifle once i get my license (not knowing what it was/difficulty in finding/price)..

after some research I realize 1) KAC SR15 is very hard to find 2) it would probably be very pricey..

I have started a "fund" about a year ago and have not dipped into the fund yet.

does anyone know the price on one of these things? I would be comfortable spending up to 5k for one.

also, realistically, i don't think i would be able to get my hands on one (it must be tan)....anyone suggest an alternative to building a tan AR15?

I've looked around for lowers/uppers from other manufacturers that would make them in tan...and found nothing...

anyone know of a manufacterer that does make tan lowers/uppers?

your advice is much appreciated..

(also, i considered painting a black rifle but would much rather not)

Thanks,

John

The tan SR15s just have an armacoat of sorts on them. You could apply that finish to any quality AR for way cheaper, and have a rifle you won't be as shy of taking out to the range and giving it a workout.
As an aside, the finish of the SR15s isn't all that durable. If you plan on using your guns, the finish is going to get beat up somewhat. The cheapest and potentially better option is a can of krylon.

The "Tan" coloured SR-15's were a special run produced a few years ago. Initially 2 "runs" of 100 units each were produced, one of them being ordered by Davidsons, however, Davidsons failed to take delivery of their entire order (so I was told) and we were offered the remainder. Questar purchased those units (if memory serves it was two batches of 10 guns each) and they were exported to Canada and sold. To my knowledge those are the only ones that ever made it into Canada.

Here is the old link for the gun when we were selling them:

Not sure if Knights is offering new "runs" of the Tan SR-15's but US State Department has consistantly denied export permit approval for SR-15's the past two years.

I have one of those original units... brand new in the box. I kept it for myself but have never used it. If you're really interested contact me by email... I would consider selling it.
