AR15 vs All the other black rifles

I had a nice Armalite M15A4, I sold it as it just wasn't my thing. I liked the XCR but sold it for a tavor. I just picked up my RFB last week, and love it because I can hunt big game with it (.223 is a no-no for that in Alberta), it's short, feels great and makes libs s**t themselves.

If I was a range guy, I might have kept the AR. It just didn't do anything better than any of my other guns, and it was range only.

i have an m14 already ...<snip>... I'd rather buy one gun i'm happy with than 3 guns i dont really want.

that being said i do want an AR15, just not nearly as much :)

I see. For you an RFB makes total sense.... (or a Tavor and double up on your mag usage when you get the AR... he he....)

I consider an M1A Black-ish.....

Never-the-less I don't think many CGN'ers would have buyers remorse after picking up an RFB.

the only reason i dont concider my m1a black rifle, is its heavy as hell long barrel etc also when i finally get my wood stock here it'll be brown :)

Modular, base platform is light weight, has a half century of backing from the US military to improve the weapon, and almost everything is end user level serviceable (head spacing is determined by how closely the manufacturer meets specifications). No other rifle at the moment can be built in the home gunsmith's basement with little more then punch set, a specialized wrench and a torque wrench.

Only problem with the AR15 right now is that the bloody libs restricted it; in this century the AR15 would make a fantastic utility rifle for the farmer (223 and 22LR swappable), the hunter (6.8SPC or 6.5 grendal), target shooter (24" match barrel), and survival rifle (16" pencil barrel). All with a quick swap of the upper.

Not saying it's the best option for all purposes, but it'd be a helluva of a good rifle for the everyday man that only needs wants one rifle to do as many jobs as practically allowable while being easy to maintain and acquire parts for. The colt SP901 looks like it's a close second but it's vaporware at the moment.

Are you saying you don't have an AR? If so, shame on you! ;) As much as I like my RFB (and it's non-restricted awesomeness) I just couldn't go without having my AR...yes, I know it's a paper puncher for now but dang it's a great gun. It's also highly customized and officially my "never sell" firearm. That being said...my RFB is my new big game hunter...can't wait to bag my first one with it.

WTF is this vid, seems the damage done to the receiver was by the tac latch, and perhaps some operator error. This is not a compelling argument.

I have an LMT CH with there own designed tac latch and it doesn't even scratch the finish.

Like all aftermarket parts you must be cautious, that's just common sense.

If anything this vid proves how versatile the platform is. He just strips everything down finds the problem, buys a 70 dollar receiver and voilà good as new!

well ive had to replace the upper receiver on a AR a few times after about 4000 rounds because the T handle would not lock into place because the dimple was worn out because it was aluminum, every time a shot a round the T handle would pop back and hit me in the nose lol but this dont really matter in the military when a armorer can swap it in a few min . The aluminum upper is a weak point for very long service life .. i have no bone to pic with the lower, barrel, BCG, ect. there other designs out there that will go through way more rounds without replacing parts because they are all steel, this is a fact ... wow people get ass hurt easy im just stating my opinion and experiences.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57qDTecctQU&hd=1

If you wore an upper out in 4000 rounds there was either something wrong with the upper, or the bolt carrier.

I just didn't bond with my AR that, it's a great gun, but not for me.

We'll have to see who gets the first kill with the RfB. :D

Because that's what GI Joe was shooting when I was growing up! :D

But seriously, other than the childhood M16 Brainwashing, the AR's just look so cool looking and you can mod them out so easily and economically. My advise, buy one, or two, or three......

I have tried several AR's and to be honest i didn't like them i have now spent the money and went with a Springfield M1A and switched the stock to a Troy Industries S.A.S.S. It looks beter then any AR, shoots better, can still do all the modification you want and best of all it is non restricted unlike most AR's. I know these are more expencive but it is worth it.

where did you get the troy ind stock i haven't been able to source one so i just ordered a walnut stock, which i would be happy to convert to lumber and toss the SASS one on my m1a

Well I know that more than one black rifle may be in my future, but i this will be the first one. and the hardest choice. I think after all this discussion i've settled on a non AR, likely a Kel-tec RFB, and down the road when i'm sick of playing outside i'll grab an AR to show off at the range when i'm sighting in my other guns that i can actually use :p

Looks to me you already had your mind made up before the thread was started.

I don't use my AR to "Show off with", at the range. Isn;'t that for kids and theirs Honda Civics in the mall parking lot? Theres an air of superiority in your language because you dont have to go to a range with your M1A. Who cares , the discussion was about why we like AR's and in Canada at this time in history they are restricted to a range. If asthetics means anything and you like the RFB ,then you're probaly driving a Mazda 5.

Don't post threads to get someones opinion, and then use it to bash or insult the very question you asked.

I'm sorry i wasted my time posting why i like the M4.:kickInTheNuts:

it wasn't meant to be insulting it was meant as an over exageration. Tone is so hard to convey in a forum, and like i said a few times i do want one, but I didn't find enough value in them over the others to make it my first black rifle.

I have loved the design of the AR-15 ever since i was about 5 yrs old. We grew up with this design, and i think that had a big impact.

I just recently purchased my first AR, and i absolutely love it. wouldnt trade it for any other black rifle

AR's aren't the only Black Rifle that AR owners would be all over.
But I/we lurve them because of what they are and what they represent.

Even though it's development has roots in military theater.
It's what we (as civilians) have as the de facto best of breed for a relatively affordable, proven reliable, tactically oriented sport rifle platform that can be optimized for the users specific requirements.

Here in Banada, civilian ARs are toys. If what you are looking for is a shooting toy/sports equipment.... The AR is hard to beat.

If you need a black rifle for some other purpose, And the only other wholy legal option is hunting. Then there are better (read legal) black rifles from a practical and functional standpoint, M14 perhaps.

As a Canadian, I think your decision is pretty simple based on your requirement.
Do you need a do-it-all black rifle? Not an AR
Do you want a toy to play at the range? = AR

Having said that. You are kidding yourself (as ALL CGNers know) if you think you will only be able to afford only one. Where there is a will, there will be a way.

IMVHO, Every restricted firearms owner worth their weight in salt should own an one AR, one Glock or 1911 and one non-restricted .22LR rifle. These are the staples. Everything else is gravy.

Let us know which AR(s) :) you end up getting.

Well said!:agree:

I don't have one(no RPAL), but it's the one for me b/c I trained with it. It's a shame I couldn't take 'er out hunting though. I might get one anyway, I'm starting to miss shooting them.
