I'm fairly green about firearms in general but I viewed a post mentioning a CX4. Not knowing what this firearm was I did a bit of research and I think I need one of those rifles. I presently load only handgun rounds an a CX4 would fit right into my arsenal in a 40 calibre. I presently have an AR15 which I never shoot. Any comments regarding preferences between the two?

The CX4 I think looks like a POS. With that being said, its fairly ergonomic and easy to shoot. Some have gotten great accuracy from it. I suppose it depends upon how you feel about Beretta?

My $0.02..... obviously VERY different firearms. The Storm is a fine pistol caliber carbine. Shoots well and consistent. I found the trigger to be a little rough but you get over that very fast. It is fun to shoot and like you say can operate on reloads. If you get the unrestricted version then you can take game with it as well. The AR is a versatile platform with more accessories for it than perhaps any other rifle out there. It fires a more powerful cartridge giving greater accuracy at longer range. Not sure what you plan to use them specifically for (the AR having more restrictive uses) plinking, tac rifle or serious competition. Both are great and fun to shoot. My advice is keep the AR, buy the Storm and shoot them both regularly! Double your pleasure!

Regards,

Woo-Hoo... no one replied with this yet:

Apples vs. Oranges

...and since they are both restricted, definitely the AR! The Storm is only fun if you get the non-restricted barrel conversion (but then you are spending AR $$$ anyway and then some).

I'm a big fan of the CX4, but my only usage is sports shooting.

The Beretta is an accurate and dependable carbine with low recoil. The 10 round magazine is a great bonus, as is the reliability of feeding from the magazine, unlike some rifles with pinned mags. The trigger pull is heavy and there are some ergonomic quirks, but overall the system works and one becomes accustomed to it. The easy to add rail systems are great and save you hundreds of dollars over other rifle/carbine systems. Adding optics or a light is therefor a ridiculously easy prospect. When you factor in a used price under $1000, I consider the CX4 a must buy, especially for action shooting.

I have to ask...why don't you shoot your AR?
I enjoy, and shoot my 10.5", Aimpoint equipped, Armalite as the CQB end of the spectrum , but also use my 14.5" LMT with ACOG for mid-longer range 'games'.
My non-restricted, rebarreled CX4 in 9MM is a very different animal, but still
a blast to shoot at contact to 75 - 100yrds. Light recoil, 10 round mags...take anywhere ability...a great addition to anyone's battery!
I would recommend seeing if someone will let you 'have a go ' with a Storm before you buy...I find it 'compliments' my AR's, not replaces them!

Two entirely different animals.

I don't see a role for a 9mm long arm -- but its your $...

Ditto.

In my opinion the AR-15 is an effective rifle while the Cx4 is just an expensive toy.

I edited out the speculation and I want to caution people to stick to the facts.

Beretta Storm - versus AR15.

I'm a service rifle shooter -- so the AR15 obviosuly has it for me.

Action shooters in a pistol orientated course obviosuly can use the Storm...

Well, people were talking about CQB.
What I mean is that not only is the 9mm innacurate at a distance, the 9mm is an underpowered cartridge for a rifle with marginal terminal ballistics, even in a close range "CQB" situation.

Quiet -- I will grant you that point.

However while I have not shot anyone with a pistol - I've seen a few guys bring the wrong toy to a gun fight (cough MP-5) - and been glad I brought a rifle round...

However given recent events I would ask that we concentrate on the lawful civilian usage -- despite terminal effects being a favoured area of mine -- we can do that on other (non civilian based) forums

Duly noted.

Since you reload only pistol rounds, the Storm makes sense for you as an economic 'sort of SMG'.....if that is what you are looking for.

IMHO, if want to shoot a rifle, .40 S&W or 9mm NATO will not due. It must be a rifle/carbine calibre. The AR platform is probably the best, most prolific, non Warsaw Pact system around. There is a reason that most of the armies of the free world have adopted it, in one incarnate or another.

I do not own a Storm and never will but I will always have an AR handy.:dancingbanana:

Sorry I just love the Dancing Banana...

I just went the combo root, I have an Oly Glock lower AR in 9mm, it's nice that it uses Glock mags (read 10 rounds) in an AR package, but Oly quality sucks, the only reason I like it, is cus of the Glock mag compatability or else I would get the
that ugly perogy/potato/sausage looking BRS99
for fun shoots.
