Hi all,

I do have pistol since a while but I don t know
Anything about AR15 or VZ58. I want to buy
One or the other. If someone can give me some
info... what to Check, keep away... witch model
Are good without ruin myself :)

Thanks in advance

Eric

If you are OK with restricted definitely go for AR, M&P 15 is about $700 now.

If you want NR, go for CSA in 7.62x39. they are about $1400 new. But it is a 60s design wich is very expensive to upgrade to anything resembling a modern rifle. You could easily end up spending another $500-600. at 2-2.2K you might as well get a used XCR-L from EE.

See, this sport is a money sink hole.

Apples to oranges really.

If you want to hunt at all in Canada AR15 is out of the picture. The VZ58 or CSA-858 are immensely fun for what they do best: cheap plinking in the bush.

If your more of a range target shooting guy, the AR15 is where you want to be. It will be much easier to modify to your liking and the 5.56x45 will outperform the 7.62x39 ballistics wise every time.

Both guns are awesome at what they do, depends on what YOU want to do.

5.56 does not ballistically outperform 7.62, it depends on what you want to do. You can legally hunt with a x39 in most provinces, because it's got a bore greater than .243. And it's cheaper to shoot a lot of. For hunting inside of 200m, 7.62 is fine, 5.56 is usually not. Anyways, I love my CSA, but if I could get an AR and use it in the bush, I would. It's easier to modify and cheaper, and can use pistol mags. But beware the restricted curse, you get one, and all you do is think about taking it into the bush and having all the NR fun.

223 outperforms 762x39 because of its higher BC and higher speed (external ballistic) and this is what most people refer to when talking about ballistic. You are talking about terminal ballistic here

Thanks for explaining. I thought the way I posted was clear. AR = No hunting, doesn't need to hit hard...

Ok thanks all. I thing I will Check for an AR
(I will just do target at the range)
Look to be more easy to modify.

What mid quality model will you look at,
My budget is around 1300/1500

Thanks all :))

Just go plain Jane on your first (there will be more, trust me.) one. The beauty of Ar's is the modularity. Don't like something? Change it. It's that simple. Entry level Ar's start around 600$. The S&W M&P15 everyone is going nuts over right now is a heck of a good deal at around 700$. Get a low profile gas block and free floated handguard and you've got yourself a nice little platform to build on for ~ $1k.

...And this will get a lot of flames going but I would buy a NEA 18.5 DMR. Lol I can nearly picture a list of names that will be commenting soon :) Haters gonna hate ;)

Either a S&W 15 Sport II for a more budget gun ($700) or a Colt 6920. The Colt is the civilian version of the US's M4 and is pretty much considered the (or among the) most solid AR's made. If I could only own one AR it'd be a 6920 SOCOM edition, for the slightly heavier barrel. I would lean towards the Colt probably, but the S&W's are a really good rifle too.

EDIT: DO NOT BUY NEA DO NOT BUY NEA DO NOT BUY NEA. There are many, many better manufacturers for the same price range. Again, DO NOT BUY NEA. They are just a gamble when others for the same price are not.

Sorry it was a smileys face ;)

What do you thing about the Colt Expanse
VS the smith and Wesson?

between those two, S&W, but spend a bit more and get a 6920. The Expanse has nothing in common with the 6920, Colt cheaped out and made new parts of inferior quality compared to their LE/Mil production line, of which the 6920 is their flagship.
