anybody have any interest in a bull barrel ar180b non-restriced with a 1 in 8 twist. making one for myself and could do up a couple more if there was interest. oh and it will have a 5.56 NATO chamber and threaded flash hider

we will soon find out but i think it screws in to the recvr extension which is part of the upper this is the easy part. fitting and drilling the hole for the gas port is the difficult part but not to worry i will get r done

I could of sworn I had it in the FAQ but looks like I don't.

To remove the barrel you will need to modify an AR15 barrel extension wrench to fit properly. You then clamp the barrel and turn off the barrel extension and receiver as one piece from the barrel.

Re-read what I just wrote. You turn the BARREL EXTENSION off the BARREL. The barrel extension is only press fit into the receiver. If you attempt to clamp the receiver and turn the barrel off, all you will do is spin the barrel extension in the receiver.

thanks for the info armedsask. the only method i have used for removing barrels is to clamp the barrel and use a receiver wrench to romove it and i beleive this is the accepted way for most rifles.
I do also understand what you said about the extension so again thanks for the info.

There isn't much to removing the factory barrel.
You will need a heavy vise, aluminum barrel blocks and an ar-15 barrel extension wrench. You can buy the wrench from brownells(http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/productdetail.aspx?p=12729&) or make your own with an old ar-15 bolt.
If you buy the wrench from brownells you will need to turn the outside diameter down so it will fit in the Ar-180 receiver.

1-strip the upper including pulling the front sight/gas block off and handguards.
2-make a mark with a fine punch on the front of the receiver and a matching one on the barrel for aligning upon reinstallation of the factory barrel should you choose to do so.
3-clamp the barrel tightly in the vise with the barrel blocks
4-slip the extension wrench into the receiver and engage the wrench to the locking lugs and turn the receiver off of the barrel(standard right hand threads).
--If you try to unscrew the barrel off of the receiver by clamping the receiver and turning the barrel you will just spin the barrel extension within the receiver and never get anywhere.

Regarding the new barrel. The threads are the same as on an Ar-15 but remember that the position of the gas hole is in a slightly different location so it isn't practical to try to fit a standard ar barrel unless you can get one without the gas hole drilled.
Quite a few calibers could be fit into the Ar-180 including 9mm, any of the .223 wildcats, .300 whisper(real fun!) and I am sure some of the PPC(?) cartidges.
Thats about all I can think of for now.

as per my first post rifle will be 5.56 nato with custom made bull barrel turned from a blank by me, threaded for flash hider and non restricted. I had considered a 204 ruger caliber but i want all around gun and cheap 204 is out of the question and nato chambers are unobtainable at least in a 180b so why not say fu to the us dos.

project update

got the blank and reamer today and im about half way through the build
barrel is profiled threaded and chambered
still have to drill gas port and finish blue the barrel oh and thread for flash hider
taking it to the range tomorrow for live fire headspace check before drilling the gas port.

more updates to follow

just bluing left to do finished length is just over 21 inches
i will try to post a pic if i can find an image host
armedsask i think i qualify as an ar180b pimp just like you

Hey Armedsask, can you put an M4 stock on an AR180b ? ;) Just kidding, I am happy to say I pick mine up on Saturday! Can't wait.
The ones that really piss me off are the PM's asking me where to buy AR15 magazines or other generic accessories. Or who has AR180B's in stock. Apparently I have nothing better to do than know where all parts and firearms are in Canada.
