AR180B-2 Finished! (New pic of feed ramp...)

Nice 180!! REALLY like the finish you did on the upper. ClEaN man... :D

Just FYI, you've probably seen a 100 180's with the rail forearm, but, just in case you haven't, here's mine for reference..

Oh, and I haven't posted a pic of mine on the board as of yet, so, I thought it was time.. LOL

:D

Plink: Nice pic... the MI rail doesn't allow the barrel to float, correct?

Klunk: It has adjustment... but no clicking... you basically just turn the little hex adjustment knobs with supplied "key" a little at a time then check; probably why the optic is not as popular as it could have been ;) I still like it for all the reasons mentioned earlier as well as being super light, but why they couldn't incorporate click adjust is beyond me, it's got everything else going for it.

Iconix: Yes, the AR180B-2 can be used to hunt - 18.5" Non-Restricted .223 :)

Cool - more views than I anticipated... so, more pics (all pics appear in original post) :)

Zeiss update: I just noticed while taking these pics that the Zeiss's Dot is visible from the front; I guess that's another con for it - still love it though, I mean... it's just so small!

Nice looking rifle. I'd buy one if it weren't for my irrational fear of breaking the plastic receiver at the hinge pin. Probably the best buy out there in a non-restricted black rifle.

Midwest Quad rail

Speaking of the rail...the AR180B I just bought has one on it. I just don't know what to use it for!?! A vertical handle, I suppose...

I found that the plastic hand guards tended to get "hot" after a while. So the rail actually lets more heat out. Also, the idea of being able to mount a flashlight on it to take out "critters" at night around the house is nice. And, yes, the cool foregrip idea is nice.

Plink,

Thanks! I was looking forward to mounting my Glock light onto it, but it doesn't fit the rail. I'll have to buy a different light, I guess.

Jeff.

Armalite will send you a new lower receiver if it breaks. Haven't lost sleep over it yet. :p

So, all was not so perfect after all...

I went to the range and noticed that 2 of the 5 RRA 10rnd Magazines I bought were having feeding issues. The problem was that the tip of the round would hit perfectly just under the ramp and get jammed into the case (dangerously so). I had someone try the magazines in an AR15 and they worked perfectly. Unhappy with that I decided something had to be done.

I noticed that if I tipped the magazine forward as shown on Armedsask's site
( http://www.angelfire.com/sk3/volkarmorycustoms/ar180b/feeding.html ) it would feed perfectly.

However, I decided to go at it a different way... with hand file, 400grit sand paper and dremel with polishing wheel I made a more aggressive cut and am happy to report 100% success with all magazines... I even purposely tried to make them not feed by angling/applying pressure to the magazines in the opposite direction. 100% feeding from all magazines :)

The picture doesn't do my job justice... it looks factory (it's just so shiny that it's reflecting a lot of the light and looks a little bad.)
Tomorrow I will take some pics under better conditions to replace the current one. Pic is on PAGE 1.

Sorry I didn't take a before pic. Oh well. I am now very happy with the rifle knowing that any mag will work pefectly - magazines also still drop free ala AR-15 :)

Sounds like you have the weak/shorter mag springs that came on the first batch of RRA 10 round mags from Questar. He will replace them....you may want to contact him.

The magazine was the first thing I checked... I was "hoping" I had weak springs... but alas, they were fine ;)

Here's a much better pic of my ramps now... I tested it out today all five magazines - 10 rounds in each with me trying to make it not feed. Works like a charm!!!

I absolutely love this rifle :D
