I've been shooting a 10-22 for a while now in a AA Nomad stock, and as cool as it looks with a GSG drum, it serves no real purpose other than spewing lead down range in style. I'd like to drop some money on a more serious build for accuracy and comfort.

The new build will most likely start with the 10-22 platform. I came across a user with a custom build that featured an "AR22" modification that accepted AR15 parts. Unfortunately, these seem to be a rare find.. is there anything similar in this category? Will SR22s accept AR15 parts or are they a proprietary spec?

Next would be the trigger group. As I have heard good things about Timney triggers, it is fairly likely I will be investing in one of them.

Lastly would be the barrel. Will an AR forend fit over a .920 bull barrel? Would I be better off with a fluted barrel?

Any and all suggestions are welcome, including the possibility of a different bolt. I'd like to stick with the modular aspect of the AR platform in aluminum.. I'm not a fan of wood on certain guns.

Thanks for the info 84wh1 - I've looked around a few times on Google but didn't see anything set in stone about that.

I'm happy with the current states of my center fires. It's time to focus some attention on improving the smaller calibres. Bonus if the parts are compatible with my rifles.

Well I did a bargain build 10/22 Tactical project as well. My reason was I wanted to practise with an AR configuration as I have a 5.56 as well that can only be shot at a range as opposed to whacking gophers. I also did my mini AR build to get me son into shooting.

At the end of the day it's still a Ruger 10/22 no matter how you dress it up and how much perfume you pour on it. Mychallenge was I could not make any sense dropping 1000.00 to 1300.00 into a 10/22 Ruger.

Whether Nordic kit, or a poly kit, or a wood stock the increase in accuracy will be very marginal if any. When I want to stop playing I park my 10/22 and pick up my bolt action Anschutz.

So because I did want to be stuck with a black only rifle I bought a new wood stocked for around 260.00, a factory Ruger 10" Charger barrel for 90.00, and a used Archangel 556r kit for 140.00. I then just used AR pieces I had kicking around.

So I have 500.00 into excluding parts I had bought over the years that I can always swap back and forth. Also I can reinstall the long factory barrel and the wood stock if needed as to me it's about choices.

Don't get me wrong I love my 10/22 but you will need to spend BIG bucks to get it to match an out of the box bolt action.

My scopemounts are quick release plus see thru for my flip ups I also use a red dot but the scope on it was for shooting way past red dot ranges during gopher season. I used a 20mm rail to lock the forend to the action body it is super rigid and shoots really well. Here is a target using a box of bulk ammo good enough for gophers love my Charger barrel!!!
