AR22 type competition

I wonder if anyone is going to organize something what is based on IPSC rules and run in .22lr ammo?
It looks to be cool to have ability to shoot cheap ammo from AR type rifles.
I wonder what would be a set up for this kind of competition?
Use existing lower and get .22 dedicated upper, go for AR22 rifle? or buy Ruger and spend money to change trigger group, which will push the cost to AR22 price.
How many rounds? Most of the mags hold 25.
Can someone enlighten me?

If its the cost of centerfire ammo that's keeping people out of existing action sports... They probably can't afford to be shooting anyway.

That said.. It's the old picnic analogy...

Everyone wants a picnic but no one wants to carry the basket.

This .22 action thing gets talked about a lot but... Everyone is waiting for someone else to set it up...

One thing to keep in mind... Many seem stoked because of the higher capacity of .22's, but to really take advantage of that you might lean towards target rich stages...
Just remember these stages need to be scored... I could see it taking a loooong time.
 
This has been discussed to death. It was even brought up at the NEC (4 years ago)

For all the people that spark up and say IPSC is missing the boat by not adopting it...I have yet to see any real interest...or a single organized match (in the last several years anyway)

I think your right... There is no boat.

I could see if ipsc matches had trouble getting people to fill slots... Maybe then there might be some thought as to ways to get shooters out.

But.... That's not the case. Ipsc as it is is doing fine.

I don't need you philosophy. If you have no clue about what kind of equipment needs to be used please refrain from adding new post to your count.

I am all for IPSC values and not keen on some changes implemented however .22 is a fact and with your or not permission we can have fun shooting unexpensively.
 
Peter...your best bet would be:

Find a club hosting a one day match (Sat) and see if they are game to leave it standing for another day.

Remove all the steel and replace with clay pigeons

The fact that it's a 22 (pistol calibre) get's you past the CFO not allowing rifle calibres on pistol ranges

...then see who shows up.

That just proves the current crop of International IPSC Politicians have forgotten what the sport was actually about.

I blame the "Metros" :cool:
 
True.. You can have fun shooting inexpensively... If there's a match to shoot.
As far as gear goes... I would guess any reliable box fed semiautomatic .22 rifle would do.

Sure you could trick it out with all sorts of fancy upgrades, but that would go against the whole shooting inexpensively philosophy I would think.
