Arca Rail vs Picatinny PRS/CRPS

Do you guys recommend having the Arca rail go slightly past the forend (2") or as close to the end as possible.

Some say mounting a bipod on the unsupported section will flex the rail and upset your point of impact. I don't think and inch or two will flex enough to notice.

More importantly, if you stick your bipod out that far and you need to make any adjustments to the legs, cant etc, you will have to break your position entirely to reach it.

The rails on my rifle extend out past the end of the forend, but I don't shoot prone with the bipod attached there. The only time I have the bipod all the way out is on some barricade stages when I want more weight forward to balance better.

Having a longer rail.. or forend... can come in handy with some positions, balancing, and fitting on bags.

I go longer... for more reasons then putting a bipod there.

Jerry how far would you recommend as I know that you are very active in shooting sports.

You will be limited by the lengths or sections available depending on the brand you want to use. Also, will depend on the stock/chassis and how long that is.

It becomes a fitment thing... best thing to pick a set up and just go practise. When you sort out what accessories you want and what bags to go with those accessories, the length you need sorts itself out.

No one answer cause there are a pile of widgets and gidgets that you may decide is your thing.... and as new 'toys' come out, you may have to adjust your set up to suit.

This is not a static choice

There is no need to run your rail past the end of the chassis forend and if you actually cantilever it out a bit, you can have issues from it flexing (if you mount your bipod on the end). Furthermore, like Alpheus mentioned, you want to setup your bipod so you can adjust it while in the prone. That being said, if the forend is short (like say the KRG Bravo) it wouldn't be a terrible idea to run a longer rail so that when you want to shoot off a bag (like a Gamechanger) you can slide the bipod forward so as to have enough place for the bag. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the Strike Nuke Evo but it was with the Bravo (solved by adding the bipod spigot). The MDT XRS however has a longer forend and doesn't need this.

To put a bit of insight this is what I was trying to confirm if I should go for the 10 (which I think would fit the entire length or go 12" and have overhang.

In the link below it shows 8" and 12"

Realistically it doesn't entirely matter. If I were you I'd mock things up and see if you can fit your Gamechanger between the Maxwell/barricade stop and your bipod setup at the end of your chassis. If that works, get the 10". If it looks like you might need some extra length when shooting off a support bag, then get the 12". Just don't plan on running your bipod cantilevered off the front end when actually shooting in the prone. Besides that it's more a matter if you care how it looks with an overhang.

There's no real advantage to go beyond the forend of the stock or chassis. Lot's of people are reporting issues with vertical due to flexing of the rail when it's extended out that far, and it becomes another thing to snag on port holes, etc.

You aren't really gaining anything by going beyond the forend. However, it seems that ARCA rails are commonly made to go beyond most forends, if that's all you can find then I wouldn't let it deter you. Personally my ARCA's on my JAE chassis' extend about 2" beyond the forend, but thankfully JAE had the foresight to make the rail a lot more rigid then pretty much all others.
