Im for one a purist for the most part.
But the arachangel stock for the sks looks rather sleek IMO.
Whats the general consensus on this stock?

Well worth the money.

Way better than anything else on the market.

You should get one for your second SKS. (Your first SKS should remain in the original wood stock.)

They look pretty well built, but I have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of spending 2X as much money on my stock and mag as I do for an entire gun.

The stock is only $200.

If you paid $200 for gun + $200 for the stock, that's still only $400. Add a detachable mag + scope rail, and it's $500.

How much is an XCR?

Segue2002, if you think that pin is hard to get out (I ended up drilling mine out) wait till you try and fit the handguard. Lol I spent a better part of an afternoon sanding and filing to not only get it to fit the gas tube but then more sanding to get it to fit the stock so the takedown lever would engage. Not sure if it's just the case with the Chinese rifle. Well worth the effort though, looks much better with the archangel handguard.

Agreed, if an AA stock fell in my lap cheap I'd think about it. I put a red dot on my 50 Tula, if I don't want it on the sks at least I can use it on another rifle. Not like an aftermarket stock.

RE PROMAG ARCHANGEL AASKS STOCK

Well, I just got one from US for 183 CaD w/ shipping incl.
Just installed it and I agree the gas tube was the most problematic.
I managed to put it together.
Here is the video, it's in Russian, but I'll translate it into English soon.
There are 2 key problems with the Gas Tube Cover:
1) You have to unpin the gas tube cover by drilling into the pin itself w/ the bit of smaller diameter and then take it away with the hummer and a metallic rod of some kind (made of steel; you mae use one from the cleaning kit, just do not hammer in to much). When pinning it back, you have to hummer-pin in and smoothen it after to fit. You may use a simple knife to make the pin smooth, since it's aluminum. Unfortunately, most of the videos on assembly do not explain this or just insert the pin w/o pin-hammering it (which is wrong), but this is something obvious for me as a Russian guy and the thing we were taught in the Soviet Union School during manual labor classes as well as during classes of Military Service Initiation, which were also obligatory in USSR.
2) you will also have to sand the base of the plastic cover so the holding lock, by the sights closes and fixes the gas tube tight.

There other problem is that apparent AK-like plastic in the end of the stock is not mobile and to disassemble the cover and the spring you have to take apart whole gun.

The 3rd problem, which is not that critical is that the sliding stock is soooooo stiff...

The 4th problem-there is no accommodation for the knife

The 5th, for the money it costs, I'd expect at least 1 Picatinny Rail somewhere for the forward grip or a tactical light

Otherwise:
Plastic is of very strong good quality carbon fiber, very scratch resistant. Not really low weight though
Definitely, it has reacher look comared to TAPCO, for example (IMHO)
And the MAIN reason, why I baught it: THE PISTOL GRIP is a monolith w/ the stock = no screws etc.
AK look at the back of the stock also attracted my attention, no doubt. But, again, there is a price to pay for it :(

Hi hical, but there is no explanation or show about misfitting gas tube covers,
which most of the people have problem with (check previous posts 4 & 9s) changing the pin and fitting the gas tube cover in the video is within magic box, which is not helpful at all, unfortunately.

Unfortunately, I didn't film this procedure. But I will film one mock one later, since I have only 1 pin left. The text above explains how to change the gas tube cover.

I didn't see any videos how to unpin & pin back the pin in the gas tube. Insertion alone is not enough, You have to hammer it accurately.
Otherwise, it's OK
I will definitely film the video in English on that, 'coz it is quite easy to do, when someone shows.

Magic BOX is the key!

I can't justify spending the money then having to get the dremmel tool out for hours. I am dissapointed they do not fit properly out of the box.

No more magic boxes and secrets! Everybody admits that the gas tube is the most problematic piece. Why magic boxes, hical?
That magic box drove me totally crazy.
So crazy, so I even decided to make a video right away.

Powerbaitron, It will take you 10 min or so after explanation:)
the video will be there in 2 hrs or so.

Just bought one from Hi Cal

Put it on my $75 Chinese SKS :)

While I installed it (no fitting required on my rifle, didn't have to break out the dremel) I was indeed giggling about putting a $200 stock, $130 Rail, $250 scope, front grip and magazines, and $180 Talley rings on a $75 rifle :)

I've had SKS rifles for over 2 decades, but this is about as cool as it gets with an SKS. :)

Frankly, if I didn't want something cool looking for my clients to shoot (I run a gun rental/shooting business near Whistler BC) I probably wouldn't have bought the stock and accessories (rings and scope I had lying around). I have always enjoyed the SKS but if it was only me shooting it, I wouldn't have gone for it. But that would have been a real mistake, as I simply love the conversion :)

The Archangel stock and the Wartak rail are great additions to the SKS. Fun shooting, feels good, best scope mount for SKS I've seen, too. Thanks to Dave at Hi Caliber for talking me through the tacticooling of one of my SKS rifles. I didn't think it was too difficult, either. :)

Gatehouse ,
The Russian SKS prices are 150 CaD at best or so for regular people to buy
If you don't know anyone in the field, I guess.
Tell us the place where currently even Chinese SKS is sold for 75CaD, I'll go there tomorrow. Thanks

The stock is sold for at least 180 CaD. So, I am not sure if you can get a better deal anywhere really.

Thus, it sums up 150 (at least) for SKS + 180 stock + the rail 50+ dollars, front handle is 20-50 $ + Tapco 5/20 Mag, which costs 17 USD and 50! CAD somehow, I don't even count the stock. So in this mod, it doesn't matter too much if SKS is 75 or 150 CaD, since all mods/ additions are much more expensive.

The limitation of the Wartak rail is that:
1. You cannot use the sights if the scope is broken
2. You cannot load stripper clips anymore in case SHTF
3. Some complain that the discharged shell may hit the scope
Just to name a few
But I agree it's the second best option

And yes, if you have Russian SKS, there will be fitting issues, big time! Most non-commercial reviewers on u-tube and here agree with that.
