Arc'teryx Leaf!

there's no restriction to buy clothes. there's mil/leo pricing vs civilian pricing.

What's so goofy about it?

Arc'teryx used to restrict sales of LEAF to only Police and Military. The goofiness of restricting the sale of black or brown coloured goretex because civilians couldn't be trusted with it...
Anyway, they obviously realised it was stupid and hurting their sales, so now anyone can buy it if you pay the civvy markup.

Anyway, I bought an Echo pack this weekend and love it. None of the regular line of packs are in that pack capacity (~55l) or have the quick release shoulder buckles (a feature I like very much for b/c skiing, glacier travel and crossing fast water).

Actually I think it had more to do with the fact that LEAF was having a problem meeting the demands of Tier 1 SOF's that were requiring their stuff, and civi's needlessly buying LEAF stuff was stopping them in a certain level of capacity to getting those guys on the pointy end of a stick that needed this stuff. The best person to ask on this subject might by "logos" over at lightfighter.net they're is a running discussion on the LEAF line in their outerwear section of the forum.

Then that could have been addressed by how Arc'teryx distributed its product and wouldn't have anything to do with the retail level sales (or any restrictions thereon). They could have stopped shipping to retailers and reserved it for those big clients IF that were actually the case.

Anyway, we are derailing this thread. The stuff is itself is great, notwithstanding any Arc'teryx marketing peculiarities.

I'm glad DS carries it.

Arcteryx has no problem supplying the civie market because those can be made in China.

To be Berry Compilant, made in China is no go and hence the throttle.

Eventually, Arcteryx will go the way Oakley did - all the "black ones" for cops and LE will be made in China, only the US contracts will be LEAF.

Seriously, in terms of sewing work China is no different from the US or Canada. In Toronto, the sewing factories are run by Chinese anyways!!!

Does anyone know what the actual discount that DStactical gives for Mil/LE for LEAF products? Was thinking of making my way down to the Lower Mainland (coming from Kelowna) and purchasing a jacket if the price is right. Called the store but got a rushed "I think between 10-20% "answer.

LEAF pricing is not to be published in the open.
