So last summer I did one of my bucket list fish and travelled to southern BC to catch largemouth bass. Yes, we have them in SK but it wasn't much shorter of a drive and fishing in the mountains was much more appealing to me. Plus I caught some gorgeous cutthroat as well.

This summer I really want to go after Arctic Grayling. Anyone here ever fish for them in SK? I've googled several lakes but would like to hear from people that have actually fished and caught them. I'm on the NW side of the province but am willing to drive to wherever the best opportunity within SK would be. Hoping there is a place I can drive to with relative ease.

Any info appreciated!

The Clearwater river that flows from Saskatchewan into the Athabasca drainage has them. The Clearwater River out of Ft. MacMurray is where where people catch them.

I am not sure about the Churchill drainage.

Lloyd lake, outlet to the Clearwater, I did a trip into Lloyd lake lodge, seen them rolling in the current edge , at the outlet to clearwater river,
I would think, there will be spots, NE on any rivers, that end up in the Artic drainage.
I fish for them on the House river, here in Fort McMurray, get the odd one, haven't caught any for years in the Clearwater, round town.

When we lived in McMurray back in the mid ‘70’s, (73-77), we fished for grayling a fait bit. House River had a lot of them, as did the Hangingstone River I think it’s called, about a half hour south of town. Never fished for them in the Clearwater…

When I was working up at Cigar Lake, the boys would go fishing and catch Greyling.

I have been up to the Charlotte River 4 times over the years, incredible fishing, lots of grayling over 23 inches.
Fly in only however , but there is a good air strip there as there is a Sask Power dam there .
Haven't been up in a few years however....

Little Fox Lake in the Yukon is a nice spot. And on the plus side you can fish day in day out.
Yea, the Yukon is deff the place to go for grayling.

I fished for them in Northern BC on the way to and fro from the Yukon as well.

Nothing like fly fishing at 1 am in the Yukon catching grayling and trout on the dry fly floating in the belly boat. For sure was a bucket item on the list to dry fly fish after midnight while I was up there for a few years and glad I got that one checked off.

The other great one was northern pike on the fly on a 6wt rod. Great time with tight lines in the Yukon for sure. On that bucket list thing: Steelhead on the Skeena on a fly was a top contender as well.

Caught a lot of them at Cree Lake Sask, many of them by accident dragging spoons around for spring time lake trout. I’m not saying a #2 Len Thompson 5 of diamonds is anything near optimum, just saying it happens😂. I did spend a few evenings with glassy water sight casting little Mepps spinners with a 6040 G Loomis, which was about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. I suppose that isn’t classic Grayling fishing either, but it happens. Helps to have the right light conditions and water so clear that you can see the bottom at 30 feet. Not that the grayling were that deep, we could see literally schools of them just below surface. Oh well, had a ball doing it wrong😂

Downside is it’s fly-in, and best known for giant pike. Might be the best there is for that.

We should take a blood oath , or pinky swear or whatever it takes to never mention Cree again. The world doesn’t need, and apparently doesn’t want their eyes opened😂 Let’s just keep it to the guy’s that remember Charley; Rose and Prospher.

Oh, under no circumstances; no matter how OK it seems at rhe time, never give Prosper whiskey. Beer was OK, mostly. Pretty sure I own some sort of record on how far a 16 foot Naden can be driven onto an island without
dieing it’s 137 paces. Some one up there will remember the co-pilot. Or maybe not, fame is a fickle mistress😂

Arctic grayling are a hoot to catch. We caught them just south of Key Lake, on Highrock Lake, when I worked for the geological survey back in 1998. Beautiful fish.
