Far, far more important is the bore condition. Stocks can be easily "prettied up" if that's important to you, but unless a bore is excellent (bright with sharp lands and no pitting), I always pass unless it's a scarce collector - and yours isn't.

Just pop the bolt out, and look through the receiver. If it looks nice and shiny, with bright "swirls" (rifling), you are good to go. Did you get the bayonet , sling and cleaning accoutrements with it too? I had a M91/30 with a stock like yours, it's difficult to replicate the original shellac finish, so I just used Minwax stain and Truoil to give it a nice sheen. It was a fun project!

The appearance of the wood is minor and can be easily improved from many methods as mentioned previously. I'd like to see better shots of the bore and bolt before determining the state of the rifle.

I bought one for $109 that looks minty compared to that. I've also seen ones with cracks, bubbles and flaking shellac, oil soaked wood (bad), ill fitting wood, etc, etc. Roll of the dice

My $110.00 Mosin looks much better than that one to. Good bore to, CW with sling, tools, bayonet and pouch. $180.00 for a old Warhorse is still not bad these days though.

Guaranteed that rifle was used in battle. It also has the scars to prove it. I would wipe out the bore and shoot the snot out of it.

"...in such a bad condition?..." What did the site say about condition? Storage and transit dents are fairly common.
"...Leave it in a hot bath overnight..." Isn't done like that. Steam iron and a damp cloth to raise dents. Soaking in water will raise any cartouches the stock may have.

That stock is totally refinishable... A wet wash cloth and a hot iron will sort all that out. A Chemical stip and few coats of tung oil or linseed oil, and you're done.
