Hi everybody.

this is my first thread, spot on for what i'm looking for:
buying myself an M14 Norinco.

I've read that the "2007" marked rifles are good to go, and better in quality compared to the old, <1994 rifles. i've read that now, USGI bolts drop right in, that wood quality is better, and machining/fit is better too.

i wonder what's real and what's not about the 2007 production rifles?

Read the stickes about the M14/M1As, and search the battle rifles section for info. Just search "M14" and you will come up with a week's worth of reading. Asking what's real and what's not won't get you any more info than what is already posted. Here's a simple rundown-
Norc M14s are decent and solid and the recievers and oprods are excellent.
If you change the bolt on ANY M14 or M1A to any other bolt it will "drop in" but MUST be properly headspaced by someone qualified or experienced.

As well, the Norinco 2007 models aren't "M305" they are "M14S" - same rifle, different name. I think the new 2009 models are M305, again it's just the name.

I guess when we talk about 2007 M14S we have a certain batch that seems to have a reasonable quality standard. When we talk about all others, you could be covering a much more diverse and hetergenous spectrum of rifles. I've had two 2007's and they were both fine. I have one pre 2007 and I think its great as well. It was marked M14s as well. Slightly different and blacker parkerizing, better trigger, equally crappy wood. When you are just talking about Norinco's in general, I think just about anything is possible from good headspacing to bad. I wouldn't hesistate to buy either, but if its used, I'd want to look it over and ask questions about either.

Edit: I don't think you can make generalizations about Norinco's. Some will be better than others.

Is there a marking on the rifles that identifies them as 2007 versus some other year?

By lurking at many pictures online i'd say definitely yes.
there's a big noticeable "2007" stamp on the right rear side of the receiver.

I have two 2007s that needed a lot of work...

One flashhider broke.. the other was WAY off index and had to be realigned..

Others have gotten great ones... once they were tuned and bedded, they worked fine for me.
