Hello, new I am new to firearms and have shot a decent variety of pistols, rifles, shotguns and such, but have yet to fire a .22. As I am just getting into firearms, a .22 seems like it would be an inexpensive way to shoot, but I was wondering, is it really worth it? I have had a lot of fun shooting larger caliber rifles(shot a .50 a few times :D) and primarily want to get into firearms for shotgun sports(trap, skeet, etc) and I am unsure if a .22 will do anything for me.

if the fun of a .22 is just putting holes in paper I have other hobbies that already do that for me.

I have 2 .22 rifles and a .22 GSG 1911 pistol that are all fun to shoot. One big benefit is I can blast off a couple of hundred rounds for the price of a coffee. I am also into shotgun sport shooting and that proves quite expensive in comparison. Unless you are doing IPSC or some other competition requiring 9mm or more then why spend money on larger caliber pistol ammo for target shooting at the range? JMHO

I think everyone should have a .22. They are fun and inexpensive...there's no reason not to pick one up if you're even minimally interested in firearms. They are also a great way to introduce new people to the sport and teach them good shooting fundamentals without breaking the bank or scaring the hell out of them. Low noise, low guilt ($20 for 500 rounds? Shut up and take my money), low recoil...if I just want to get out and do some shooting at the range after a crappy day I grab my .22 and off I go. You don't even have to clean them that often.

You should not get a .22; you're wasting your time if you're shooting anything less than .338 calibre. Ask anybody.

SUPER SARCASTIC COMMENT, who shat in my corn flakes?!?!

Ok really now...

In order to become a more skilled shooter, one needs to practice. Ammo costs money, and .22 is MUUUCH less expensive than everything else. Get you dream rifle, and a .22. You'll use them both.

I love shooting my .22's. I have 4 of them and use those as much or more than my .223's, .308's, .270, 9mm's, .44, .17HMR etc. added together

Get a .22. It's less than peanuts to shoot it. If you find it's truly worthless to you (and I highly doubt you will), sell it on EE and get 110% of your money back.

Fixed er for ya!

I have 4 .22s in my safe. Hoping for more. They all get used, each one is good for different types of practice/plinking.

+1 on the reactive targets comment above.

Just came back from range shooting cz455, lots of fun picking off the clay pigeons at 50 and 100m; shoot till not a sign of orange left. The other rifles 223 up to 30-06 stayed at home.

One good thing about rimfires is they don't make much noise (especially .22) So you can fire off without worrying about bothering people if homes are not far away. Also, limitless magazine size is awsome.

I don't get why people ask this question all the time, is the only fun for you the Big Bang that accompanies pulling the trigger and nothing else matters?

Like everybody else says, buy at least one. You will never get rid of them. In fact I personally will keep every firearm that I buy, won't have to worry about the " should not have sold that one " syndrome haha

i love shooting my 9mm at the range... but my new 22 with the 30 round magazine was a blast...and more bang for a buck...for those of us on a budget...

Get the cz 512 semi auto . acurate and cheap . fun fun fun what more can I say. Ya got to have a 22. Even people who dont like guns have 22.s

Oh no you want to start with a 50 Bmg 22 is way to affordable and totally not fun to shoot all day.... Lol yea buy them and sell them it's fun!
