Are all AR's restricted?

Just curious? And if I was to get into AR's whats a good budget minded one to start me off?

all ar's are restricted based on the fact that they are scarey looking

and anywhere from a cheap norc m4 running you 700, to 10 000 if you get the most expensive and soup it up. They're like barbies for men, there are a million accessories for them. If you want non-restricted once in a while you can find a 180B on the EE or new a bennelli mr1 runs 1600 or an XCR, but there are super expensive as well..

So yes ar's are restricted

There are alterantives, however they are usually more expensive than their restricted counterparts, usually due to the fact you can go coyote hunting with them :) :ar15:

Technically, the AR shouldn't be restricted as it is not a variant of the M16 as is written in the regulation (with exception to those specifically named). But no one has fought that battle in the courts yet.

I interpreted the poster as asking about AR15/AR10 FOW.

I believe some of the early pre-AR15 AR10s aren't restricted?? I'd have to revisit the actual wording again.

As per RCMP website.

Yup. Since the AR15 actual PREDATES the M16 and the M16 is an AR15 variant, the AR15, with exception to those models listed, should be non-restricted.

Modern AR10's are restricted as variants of the AR15 - the vast majority of 'original' AR10's are prohib as converted full autos. There are rumoured to be a very few factory semi-auto 'original' AR-10 rifles that are (or are eligible to be) non-restricted.

I hate thread like this because the facts are there that prove the AR to not be a variant of an M16 bit who has the money/time/resources/drive to fight this on a legal front?

I would donate to the cause as much as I possibly could but with the current political situation I fear it to be a pointless battle.

If Canada continues this dictator-like government I may just have to pack up and leave.

Yes, the AR-15 should be non-restricted.

Let's say you can prove that the AR-15 is not an M-16 variant. All the government has to do is to specify that AR-15 itself is restricted and you are back to the starting point. It's only useful if you believe the government isn't interested in restricting it.

spend the time and money to win a battle in the courts like that only to have a new reason created that will make them restricted again.

quite the system.

I would like to have an AR. Realistically though, I probably won't unless they become non-restricted.

Then the antis win. At least buy a 100 dollar stripped lower. Got to keep up the numbers of restricteds or we'll lose them completely.

They could also prohib or restrict ANY gun overnight.

True, but they especially have it in for certain firearm designs. There's a clear prejudice against military autoloaders, those that constitute in their minds "assault rifles". I'd really like to see it unrestricted, but I think the only way it would remain that way is through lobbying.

I guess you don't own any handguns either?
