I seem to recall that when Ruger first announced the Mini30, they made a point of extolling the benefits of using a .308 barrel for ease of reloading...and then after a few years they switched over to .311 because people wanted to use surplus. I don't know if it was because of a real safety issue caused by using .311 in a .308 bore, or if it was just a marketing thing because people
thought it would be an issue.
I have an American in 7.62x39 and I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't even know the bore size, even though I shoot it a lot (almost all surplus). I'm about as likely to reload that cartridge as I am to take up unicycle riding...
