I have T3 Varminter 7MM LA. I was wondering are all the T3,s LA with some kind of spacer for the SA??! And what are the benefits of a SA? Thanks.

You bet. They use a spacer in the magazine and different bolt stops for the shorter cartridges. They are all the same length of action.

and they can very easily be made in to LA with about 10 minutes, a file, an oscillating saw, and a beer.... then you can make your reloads with longer COAL's for better schoosting accuracy...

Awesome,I got the tools all ready to go, no beer though. I have a bottle of rum instead. So now what do I do with my 7MM mag?:)

Brian......think you better do some more reading and don't open that bottle of rum..lol Mag cases are not the same as standard cases. Short actions are said to be stiffer, thus won't flex.. they also allow you to have a shorter stroke when cycling the bolt. The main reason Tikka are more economical ..one action length = less tooling, machining, stocks etc..

Ok , just curious, with the least amount of work ,what can I change my 7 Mm into? I love my 7MM and wouldn't change a thing about her .. Except for the stock maybe .. And the bolt handle. But that's it ! Also why do people prefer the SA over the LA? Is it because of the short stroke???

If you have a 7mm Mag I think you already have the longest throw, and longest mag, that you can have.....

Shorter actions are considered more accurate due to less flex, etc, but in the case of the tikka that doesn't apply. That bolt stop doesn't make a SA T3 functionally any different than a LA.

The modification comes into play if you have a .308 length action, or .300WSM (like me), and you want to load rounds that wouldn't normally fit into the mag, or get snatched up by the bolt when you pull it all the way back.

This is what I've learned....

You can modify the bolt stop by either getting an overpriced and hard to find new one, or taking it out, and making a simple mod. YouTube vids are easy to find on this.

The mags are a bit tricky. From what I can tell they're all the same length overall, but have different length spacers in the back end of them. They're not all the same inner width, however..... Apparently if you try and make a 30-06 mag work for a .300WSM the .300's will be too snug and not pop up properly. There are mods described for the mags on YouTube, etc as well. I had a spare .300WSM mag so I had a go at modding mine the other night....so we'll see how it works here soon.

A Boyd's stock is a nice swap. Coretac has bolt handles. They're nice, and easy to change, but far from necessary....

I bought a 7-08 and got it rechambered to a 7x57AI and also got the long bolt stop and mag. It is a full length action now so that I can take advantage of the length. The Tikka is a good platform for those kind of mods. And along the way I got a stainless bolt shroud!

Make it into a 7x57; embrace the fjudd

how do you take a mag bolt face which is .532 and use a standard bolt face cartridge .473?.. the only you can go to with out a new barrel is rum,stw maybe 28 nosler, and few other wildcats not sure if the mag or action is long enough?? if the gunsmith with use your old barrel....if you change your barrel any magnum case with a .532 case head..
