Are any Semi Auto shotties banned?

This is a good thread on the original classification of the XTR versus the other AR style shotguns.

5. In the 2015 time period, there was a proliferation of new tactical shotgun models being imported from Turkey having the “look & feel” of the AR-15. As a result, in late 2015 / early 2016 a project was undertaken by RCMP - Specialised Firearms Support Services Section (the RCMP Firearms Legal Class Policy Centre) to determine which if any, of those shotguns should be considered “AR-15 variants” for the purpose of assigning the appropriate legal class to those firearms. Most were eliminated from restricted legal class assignment due to the lack of mechanical similarity in the locking mechanism such as presence of a tilting breech block or bolt lug (which locks the bolt to a barrel extension) or gas operating system and the method of locking the upper and lower receivers together that does not involve the dual push-pin system of the AR-15. The majority of Turkish tactical shotguns that imitated the AR-15 ‘style” or appearance were determined not to be “AR-15” variants as their lineage could go to either the AR-10 or AR-15 without a compelling technical lineage to either design of firearm and the weakness of the association to the AR-15 / M-16.

I've watched this forum off and one for a while , lost a login and started again and decided to come back for this thread entirely. I had noticed now that I'm in the market for a Derya or Typhoon style system that they are either out of stock or have been removed from retailers sites when I had seen them days prior. I'm wondering the same or are shops taking them down for fear of future action or something else ? or is there a general shortage / sell out of these platforms now that the AR style rifles have been banned ? ....

They're still available

Read my post above yours.
They are/were not deemed AR variants.

The MK12s began flying off the shelves when the pandemic started heating up in Canada (Mar.14) Nothing to do with the prohibited list.

Of course the Libs could change anything as it currently stands, but if anything...the Typhoon and MK12 could be susceptible to a box magazine ban.

But I'll be shooting my MK12 all summer and fall and I'll continue to buy extra magazines for it. Got a nice little pile already.

Thanks guys , I looked very diligently at the list and didn't see the Typhoon , Pallas , Hunt group or Axor variants but I couldn't find them online as I had days and weeks prior so I had wondered. Just an "in place" demand kinda thing.I'll keep my eye out for one I guess.

and now read this ban of 12 and 10 guage shotguns with removable chokes
May 5 2020
by mass email from CSSA

The Canadian Shooting Sports Association and the Canadian Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association demand the immediate withdrawal of the Liberal's flawed Order in Council.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister Bill Blair looked Canadian gun owners in the eye last Friday and said they would not take guns suitable for hunting away from us.

Mr. Blair is either too inept to comprehend the scope of his new regulations...or he lied to the Government and Canadians.

In the legal opinion of our firearms team - headed by Edward Burlew L.L.B., one of the foremost experts in Canadian firearms law - Bill Blair banned almost every modern 12-gauge and 10-gauge shotgun in Canada with removable chokes because they exceed the maximum bore diameter of 20 mm as defined in SOR/2020-96.

Canada's firearms industry body, the CSAAA, advises retailers to cease sales of many 12-gauge or larger shotguns with removable chokes."

It is estimated there are 1.5 - 2 million of the common hunting firearms in Canada.

As well, many large bore hunting rifles - some over 100 years old and valued over $100,000 have become prohibited. None of these firearms are semi-automatic or "military style." They encompass common bolt-action rifles such as the .460 Weatherby, break-open single and double rifles. These firearms are captured because the powerful cartridges they shoot - designed to humanely dispatch the largest game animals. PURE hunting rifles.

CSAAA also advises retailers to stop sales of "large hunting calibre, non semi-automatic rifles such as the Weatherby Mark V .460 as these rifles exceed the 10,000 Joules energy restriction.

Despite open hunting seasons across much of Canada, lawful firearms owners should refrain from using 12-gauge or larger shotguns with removable chokes or large calibre rifles capable of exceeding the government's energy ceiling.

These firearms are PROHIBITED and may not be used or transported for any reason.

Intentional lies or incompetent mistakes? You decide.

The Canadian Shooting Sports Association (CSSA) and the Canadian Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association (CSAAA) demand the immediate withdrawal of the Liberal's flawed Order in Council and the resignation of Public Safety Minister, Bill Blair.

I doubt CSSA actually put that out. You would have to ream the whole barrel of a 12GA, and it would blow up with first shot. Enforcement will ignore choke issue.

The CSSA did indeed put that out after getting a legal opinion from a lawyer who does gun law for a living.

The letter of the law says 20mm or over. Take out the choke and measure the bore - 20.xx means Prohib. Just like they measure a rifle barrel with the flash hider removed, or without the hider if it's pinned/welded on. If you trust the RCMP lab, you know, the guys who attached an AR upper to a non-AR lower with baling wire, and got it to fire once and said the lower was an AR, then good for you.

There's a ton of weird in that OIC, anyone have any idea why they banned a single shot, 308 bolt faced, bench rest action? Me neither.

In regards for the Typhoon F-12 . Spoke with the importer here in Canada. Frist , its not on the ban list and still non restricted as per the FRT. Second, he confirmed to me that the F-12 has a bore diameter under 20 mm.

Here the list there to many to name but they are under PFR, Part 1, para. 87 .
