Are "AR" Parts banned from Importing?
I ordered a buffer for my FX 9. The part listed by Brownells is an AR 6oz Buffer. The package has been with CBSA now for 16 working days. I call and each time a CBSO tells me it is in the que please phone next Friday. None of the officers knows if there is a ban. Anyone out there have any experiences with buying minor parts recently? What ticks me off as I have never owned an AR but do own a carbine that used this part.

Now in fairness to the CBSA they are likely over worked, under funded and dealing with high volumes of pkgs right now. That said that also means I may wait, like I did for a Sig 320 grip module for six months before getting the module released.

The package I am expecting also includes new sights for my M&P pistol Worse case wqill be they seize everything pending my appeal which would mean I wopn't see my parts until next spring.

I had parts returned by CBSA to brownells because it had AR-15 in the description of the part (it was a handguard).

Since then I just order through RDSC and wait the 6-8 weeks if they don’t already have it in stock.

The only parts prohibited are the upper and lower receiver, CBSA is playing games with people. I ordered a AR-15 handguard from Brownells, and unfortunately Brownell listed it as a AR-15 handguard, it arrive in Custom December 4 2021 and they played games with me having to get an import permit from Global affairs, which I did and then they said Global affairs gave me the wrong permit. I asked them which is the right permit, they did not know they said ask Global Affairs. Anyway I received the handguard June of 2022

My Flatwire spring, orange sprinco spring and some small pins arrived today

Ordered from Brownells, May 27th, shipped on June 29th. Arrived at CBSA Missasuga July 01, released from CBSA September 8th and delivered on September 12th.

CBSA didn't open the package or asses taxes and there was no Canada Post handling fee. Also looks like shipping prices from Brownells went up, it was 25.00 to ship the springs according to the invoice but when I look the shipping label it's 37.47 for the actual postage charge. I was only charged 25.00.

It might just take a while for your buffer to come in I don't think that parts labelled as AR-15 are prohibited from being imported as my shipping label clearly said AR-15 Carbine Flat wire SPRI on it.

on a side note does anyone know if Brownells is getting better with their processing times? It took 30 days before my order even shipped and then another 61 days with CBSA.

terBC I assume your parts went thru Missusaiga as well. It is the CBSA attitude out of TO that upsets me. One of their members of their brain trus tried to claim the sights for my M&P was a gun and justified holding the shipment. The last time I called the guy gave me the telephone number of their Miss. Centre. Nobody answered the phone but I have their number.
Looks like I have a long wait in front of me. A magwell for my FX9 went in and out to me in one day. They may just get excited when they see a part for the baby killer gun.

CBSA in Mississauga hold gun parts for 3 to 8 weeks no matter what.

My last orders

Numrich mauser parts 5 weeks
Brownells tools and some mags 3 weeks
Numrich more mauser parts 4 weeks

Have another Numrich order with Enfield parts hitting there in a few days and I'm expecting a month hold

None of my orders were opened nor taxed, so they just sit there for no reason.

That may be 25usd and 37 cdn after conversion

I spoke to a CBSA officer this morning. He said with firearm parts the pkgs get delayed because the parts have to be confirmed by someone who knows w h at parts are ok and what are not. He did sent me to a number that I got to leave a message asking v the mail centre folks to get hold of me by return call. He gave me some hope I might see the items released this week. I will just have to wait it out.
In the meantime my maxwell for the gun will be delivered today. It was released the same day it was presented to the CBSA.

In another thread someone posted some legalese that stated firearms parts for prohibited firearms are not importable, but for the life of me I can't find that thread and nobody else seems to be able to find this info either.

However the fact that at least some (probably most?) AR parts are still making into the country makes me question the validity of that previous post. I really wish I could find it again...

The officer this morning did not go as far as to suggest my parts were OK to import. He was more of the view it was more a case of just confirming this
Time will tell. The buffer fits most designs that use this method of dampening the bolts travel.

I had an order get stopped for parts and a stock for my mini14 which is of course on the new list.
they refused to let the order into the country stating that the gun the stuff was for was now prohibited.
so its not just AR stuff, its any rifle that is on the list.

which is strange, because I still legally own the rifle, i should still be able to get parts for it and tweak stuff on it if i want to.

Was this recently? My buffer, while referred to as an AR 6 oz buffer fits other non banned carbines. If and when I get to appeal a seizure I intend to point out to them I don't own an AR rifle and never have. The buffer is for my FX-9. I really don't care one way or another it is the principle involved. I also, in the same pkg new sights for my M&P 9MM. Time will tell. The magwell for the FX9 went through the same day it was presented to the CBSA. It now sits on my carbine.

Marlin M60 buffers, 2 months. Somebody got a “hardon” for the M60 designation. An earlier thread somebodies AR 15 cleaning brush was held up

That is basically what the legalese said; if the gun is a prohib, then parts are verboten. Really frustrating that I can't seem to find that thread anymore though....

And this might be a major problem for us. Just because the parts fit a different gun, or they were bought for a different gun, might not change them from being AR parts. Firearms like the FX9 and many others were specifically designed to use AR parts, its not like these were universal parts that existed before the AR was a thing...

And an argument could be made that such an interpretation is already in effect - for example look at magazines. Putting a glock magazine in a PC9 does not make that glock magazine a Ruger magazine, and it does not make that glock magazine a rifle magazine either. It was originally designed and manufactured as a glock handgun mag, therefore it is a glock handgun mag regardless of what you put it in. I could see them applying that same logic to AR parts...

its not just gun parts I have a piston and gaskets for an air compressor sitting in customs for a few weeks now labeled as compressor parts as per retailer

I think they are just really backlogged and things sit for days/weeks as often stuff eventually gets cleared and is often untaxed and unopened
