This question might be a bit moot considering the border is still closed, but once it opens...

I'm aware of the restriction on the export of ammo from the United States - basically you can't unless you want to drown in paperwork and costs. However, does this restriction also apply to Bullets or Brass? Any info on this would be appreciated. Furthermore, is there a recommended website in either Canada or the US that people purchase their bullets from? I'm aware of Tradex and X-Reload, curious if there are others...

I’ve brought ammunition across the border. The limit was 1000 or 2000 I can’t remember. We’re not legally allowed to transport ammo in the states but we are allowed to bring it across. Unless that’s changed now. I’d give customs a call

While the Canadian government will let you bring ammunition or components in from the USA, it is a violation of the USA laws to export ammunition or components out of the USA , without the proper export permits.

As stated above !

I had a buddy come back into Canada with a Paintball gun at the Detroit Crossing and was nabbed by a CBP outbound checkpoint , they seized the paintball gun and told him he was lucky that's all they were doing . He left it it there as implications were made bigger problems would arise if he wanted to fight it .

The Canadian import limit is 5,000 rounds.

The USA export limit is 0. If the Americans catch you at a border check with ammo, your ammo and car may be sized and you could be in jail. For starters.

You are lucky you didn't get stopped on the US side. Maybe you should be giving customs a call.
