Are cooeys worth what people are asking?

Have you ever owned or even shot a cooey?? I would take a single shot model 39 over a Remington 597 any day

Yes, I've shot Cooeys before, which is why I don't get why someone would pay more than $100 for one.

One word. Winchester

Not sure what you mean by "Winchester". Winchester had nothing to do with Cooey until 1961 and shortly after changed the models and made them cheaper. The Cooeys before 1961 were not tied to Winchester in any way and have no Winchester markings on them. I think, regarding this thread, most are referring to the original Cooeys before the Winchester takeover.

You are correct my friend. Things went in the crapper quality wise and likely Winchester didn't really care if what was left of cooey survived or not unfortunately

I just think people have the blinders on when they're looking to purchase rifles to shoot and settle on an old Cooey due to nostalgia rather than buying a modern rifle brand new for very close to the same price. I've been there and IMO, it doesn't make sense. Not to say there aren't collectible models but the average 84, 60, 39, 75 etc. isn't to me.

For what it's worth, I had a 64 for sale for a couple weeks now. Not a single bite, not a big deal honestly. I slapped on an older Tasco scope I had sitting around and took it to the range to test out its accuracy today.

After sighting in the scope, and going through a couple hundred rounds to see what was working nicely, this is what came out on top:

Not too shabby for a rifle that came to me all gummed up and non-functional. This alone makes it worth keeping for myself now. Should make a good gopher gun. Oddly, no trouble feeding or firing anything except the stuff from the white box of Federal Auto Match. I have another 64, I hope it turns out as good as this one.

I once had a Ruger 10/22, and it wasn't this accurate, and it wasn't nearly as cheap to acquire. So everyone can knock the Cooeys all they want, but they're not all garbage.
