Are Grey Squirrels a Problem?

Can't have 'em drunk on the job, I've actually taught them to be working animals. Mostly as alarm clocks, but... well, Lefty is one of the few other living things on this planet that my mother can tolerate coexisting with so she helps out with the care needs in her own way by keeping the Ill Tempered Old One amused so she doesn't badger me while I'm fighting with unloading the groceries.

In my position, you take any source of help you can get, ya know? :)

grey squirrels are native to Eastern Canada, so you seeing them in your area shouldn't really be that concerning. Out here in BC those bastards are like the spawn of satan, they get into the nest of the columbian ground squirrels we have here and do damage. not sure what you have as far as hnting regs for squirrels in Ontario but I am a fan of getting rid of squirrels at the earliest possible chance.

Apparently there were a few of them and their black relatives in the Calgary zoo, many decades ago, since then they have spread far and wide. Taken in Sundre a couple of years ago.

I think is time to move out of your mother's basement.

Thanks for the squirrel lessons guys! Mostly black squirrels in my area, although I tend to see the occasional grey on my property. They don't do any damage to my house, but love to dig in the garden and also strip the berries from the bushes. Year before last, they self regulated lol. 14 or 15 of them fell into my pool and drowned. I managed to rescue another couple of them, and the rest seemed to fall in line:cool:

Most of my life squirrels were only a city thing. But a few years ago they started appearing here at the farms.

I make time to shoot them before they destroy anything, using anything that's handy, 22LR, 22 Hornet or shotgun.

Ever heard of Live-In Care? When a parent is mobility impaired and unable to care for themselves anymore you do what you have to do, especially when they're your last living relative.

That cheapshot was COMPLETELY un-called for.

Been “there -done that” you do whatever makes their life easier.

I've been through that, many here have... but most don't go on hunting blogs and blather on about making friends with squirrels while at the same time complaining about their infirmed "loved" one... but you do you. Frankly, I like squirrels too... right next to the mashed potatoes.

We had many in Okotoks in the 70's and 80's and before they figured the came west on the railroad cars way back. Often they were laid on on main street .
