I have a 22/45 that I just can't shoot very well. I would like to sell or trade it for another semi-22 and since I like the 1911 platform I've been giving the GSG a serious look. I know they are fun but how do they shoot really? TC

GSG 1911 .22 lr

Interesting, not that happy with mine, going to try thicker grips hopefully that makes a difference.

I threw a set of Hogue molded grips on mine and it feels great now. (They're the ones that wrap around the front and have finger grooves).

I got them at Reliable.

Make sure you get the full size (Government model) grips, because they do have the compact version as well.

I had one that was totally useless,It had every known defect that was/is common with these pistols,Finally got smart and traded it at my local Gunshop for a Ruger MKII,best move ever IMO.

No arguing that the ruger M1/II/III series is much superior. For that matter, the buckmark should be found in it's base model cheaper then the GSG, and it's a better pistol as well. The GSG is a fun plinker, but it really seems like the slide/spring weight balance is marginal for reliable cycling. Only 22 i ever had to break in before it would cycle. That said, it runs well now (knock on wood) and shoots straight. plus it runs like a 1911 so it makes a good cheap trainer pistol when i'm competing with 1911's

I would agree with Woodeneye, Colin, and Cocked&Locked. I was very unhappy with mine at first. Very first round failed to chamber and then four of the first mag either failed to feed or stovepiped. The fault was largely mine though as I hadn't cleaned it well enough before heading to the range. There has been a very noticeable break in though and it will now shoot most brands of ammo but so far only CCI Stingers have never been a problem.
