I find it funny how the only people who slander this rifle don't own one, and few have actually fired them.
I have posted before on what I accomplished in Service Rifle with mine, as well as my 1,200 round (and counting, without being stripped, lubed or cleaned) reliability test (0 FTF and 1 misfeed due to an incorrectly inserted magazine).
This gun has a 10.5" barrel, chrome lined with bayo-lug, chrome internals, M4 Feed ramps, and in all respects a very capable, accurate and so-far, reliable platform.
The bolt carrier, bolt and related components are all chrome lined as well.
The revisionism on the price is BS as well. To claim that some sort of conspiracy was afoot to sell $1,600 rifles is crap. At the time, Remington VR-15's were going for $1,800 and bushmasters were $1,600 - $1,800 if you could find one in stock. FFS, at that time Pmags were going for $70 a pop in the EE and now you can't give them away for $35.
I stand by my purchase, its a great rifle, way more accurate with irons to 500 yards than I could ever shoot, fun, and because its a shorty, gets lots of attention when you shoot anything over 100 yards.
It does have a ####ty black paint-job over top of the anodizing. I believe its to cover the damage to the anodizing caused by the electroplated serial-number and maybe in an attempt to clean up any scuffing that may have occurred to the finish during assembly.
Also, there is about 1.5mm - 2mm of slop between the upper and lower. That's common to most commercial AR's and not a performance issue.
The trigger is definitely stiffer than most civilian AR's and benefited from some breaking in and liberal use of CLP until it burnished.
The charging handle is not finished to win any beauty contests.
My biggest beef is with the safety, which is configured internally (I think) like a 3-stage fire selector and you must flip it 180 degrees to fire, rather than 90.
Those that wonder if the IDS guns are any good, can determine for themselves if they want to rely on some armchair QB who handled one in a store once.
I make no claims that this is an RRA or Stag, but I am confident for the configuration and price, its a suitable alternative to a Bushmaster or Armalite.
However, rest assured, the IDS is NOT a Norinco and aside from the electro-penciled serial number, is machined well.
