just wondering what peoples opinions are .
just starting to load 357 magnum .
But ive been loading, 9mm, 40 s&w,45 acp,44 Magnum, and 270 Short mag .and ive only ever used magnum primers in 270 Short mag.
and have had great success .
Are magnum primers that much different...

I load my 357 rounds with regular small pistol primers and they all go off. Depending on which powder you're using, you may need to use a magnum powder.

I load mine with:
7 - 7.5 grains Titegroup
125 grain Campro Flat Nose
CCI 500 Small Pistol Primers

I'm thinking of using 17 to 18 grains of H110 to see if there's a difference in case capacity, bought a box of CCI magnum primers for fuller loads to test out.

I have used the max recommended load with H110 (16.7gr I think) with regular CCI small pistol primers and 160gr bullets and have no problems getting velocities around 1500 fps. However there is some powder not getting burned (can see it on the table and hands). You shouldn't have any problems other than a little unburnt powder.

Magnum primers are suggested for slow burning powders such as 2400. They help to get more of the slow powder burnt.
But I have found that this is not cast in stone. Myself & friends have used regular primers with 2400 with very good results.
Especially in a 4" barrel, there is a bit of unburnt powder. But velocities seemed the same as magnum primers and
accuracy was actually a slight bit better. Some years ago I read an article in one of the U.S. magazines that
the writer had already found slightly improved acuuracy with regular primers.
