So I was out hitting a few golf balls on the back lawn about half an hour ago ..... and noticed a male & female mallard off in the tall grass to the side. No big deal, they've been around since late winter & have seen them quite a few times before.

I just get in the house, turn on the hockey game & whack, the south wall of the house sounds like it got smacked by a mack truck. So I go outside & take a look around. Nothing. I go around the side of the house & this big hawk takes off, red-tailed or goshawk couldn't tell. Then I hear a fluttering underneath the cedar hedge.

There's Mr. Mallard on his death bed with a broken neck. He must have flown into the side of the house trying to get away from the bird of prey.

Not a duck hunter at all, but I'm guessing I should dress him up!? - just stuck him in the fridge for the night - what's Spring mallard in a orange sauce taste like?:D

Yea, they were most prob nesting, it is that time and the hawk felt like he needed lunch lol.

I'm sure it will taste just fine, nice snag lol.

Maybe call MNR to tell them hawks are preying on adult mallards.
