Are Marlin's Good Again (yet)? Recent Marlin Experiences

bought a lemon almost 3 years ago and sat on it thinking its not that bad. tried to scope it to find that i couldn't get it sighted in due to misaligned barrel to the receiver. barrel was also canted. their warranty covered replacement nearly 3 years after purchase so i am impressed with that. I'll let you know how the new one is when it gets here but I'm sure it'll be inspected and just fine this time

Did Gravel make you pay for shipping when you sent it in?

Liking my 336W that I bought used here on CGN. Then I bought a Champion set of furniture since wood and me don’t get along!

I’ve fallen several times while pushing Bush! Don’t get old, And I hunt with gloves on so the larger lever is a bonus...

I’m pleased that Remlin got things together. Cycled this 336 lots while watching episodes of Longmire and the Ranch on Netflix. All ready for deer season in a few months!

Cheers, Barney

Bought one of the limited 1894 45 colts 1 of 1500 got it home went sighted in and noticed front sight off to left took it back home to move it to center and pushed it out with my thumb sight was milled wrong( Marbles) sight not Marlin problem but Marlin problem for install no QC!

To be somewhat fair. My 2000ish 1895 GG had issues. Became a single shot....jamming. It also had about a 12lb trigger and very heavy loading gate. Went into Peter at Rusty Woods in Mission. Action job, trigger tweeked and replaced spring on the gate. Now its only issue is shooting 4" right at 50yds. I know its simply a drift of the sight, but my vision needs optics. Got a Leupold variable hogplex.

I have a 2017 336W and an older JM 336c (pre safety, so probably 1970's).

The 336W is the lowest end remlin model. My 2017 336W"s been totally fine and is 90% as smooth as my JM.

The trigger on the 2017 model is slightly heavier than the old JM. The side to side play in the lever and hammer are about the same, but the Remlin has slightly more. It's negligible.

Wood all fits nicely without massive gaps on the 336W, the fit's as good as my JM.

My magazine tube on the 2017 Remlin was offset to the right a little. All you need to do is loosen the front band screw, shift the tube straight, then tighten it again.

Owning a both the JM and Remington 336, comparable models, the 2017 336W I have stacks up very nicely.

I purchased myself a new GBL in 45-70 this spring and I did run into a few issues. I read to look over and meticulously inspect for fit and finish which I did, the rifle passed but I was so focused on that that I missed the front sight being bent and canting off to the left. I also did not receive a hammer spur. I contacted Gravel, the warranty depot and within 3 days I had a new front sight and hammer spur. Excellent warranty support.

Im shooting 405 gr cast bullets and the rifle shoots as well as I would expect with open sights. I have no issues with loading or ejections. It is a bit rough on brass and scratch it up when loading, there is a sharp edge on the loading port somewhere.
Over all I wouldn't hesitate to buy another and really there isn't much on the market for short big loop 45/70's.

Cheers!!
