$400 for an M305 is like a dream..
here in new zealand ( dont laugh ) .. its costs about $1400 for an M305 , and thats a good price, through a private seller. from a retailer you'd be looking at $2k ... as for the springfield counterparts $4k or just under ..

i should buy through you lot and get them shipped over.

You are absolutely correct about Canada's good fortune. We get these rifles for a song, and bellyache for this and that reason. We have had other windfalls in the past including Israeli and Yugoslavian gunvault sweepings in the '80s and '90s, and Danish Garands in the '90s. The Norinco M14s are this decade's equivalent.

I had the pleasure of attending Hungry's clinic a few weeks ago. The concentration of Norinco rifles (and a Converted Auto TRW M14 in the E2 stock) was a critical mass to learn and pick up on the differences. There are in fact easily three "waves" of importation, with the last batch having the best quality control, but no USGI-clone parts like the first batch.
 
Picked up a n Nor M14 a week ago just got out today with it, worked great, it is a hoot to shoot and I even had couple under inch pairs with it using 155 gr any suggestions on best gr or bullet type for these guns?
 
I have a buddy who hand loads so if any one has a tweaked formula that works well let me know. Also I need to take a course on how to strip these down and give it a good cleaning still has that packing oil they put on it ozing out here and there. I see clinics in Calgary any in Ontario this year?

There was a clinic in Ontario 2 weeks ago, don't know when the next one is. Hungry has a DVD you may want to buy it's from a previous clinic mine's on order should have it soon.
 
Love my Norc M14. I reload and shoot my own cast boolits. Gun is accurate and with a new Lyman boolit mold I am looking at should even be more accurate.

.I emailed and enquired about them just as the boat came in so placed an order on the spot.
Mine took about 10 days all together from order to delivery . the regestration document got to me first . Buy 2 and you an sell the spare on the EE for $575 .
then buy extra bullits
 
I just swapped with a fellow GNer for a used Chinese M-14. This one is the tightest I've personally headspaced yet ...
headspace is only .009" thou over 7.62 NATO GO ...
which is acceptable ...

When I did my usual thorough inspection, this one had absolutely ZERO deficiencies ...
rear sight works, front sight is straight, the bolt wear patterns show perfect bearing.

SO,
it IS possible to get a near perfect Norinco ... just the luck of the draw.
Of course,
I paid a LOT more than $ 399 plus shipping for my new toy, but that's Ok with me.
